This legacy Chase credit card is not taking new applications. Compiled below is a comparison of current card-derived vs. status-derived benefits.
Overall, the current benefits of the PP and the replacement Club card are nearly identical. The key trade-off is increased redeemable mile (RDM) earnings with the Club card vs. FPQM with the PP card. Basically, the Club card earns an incremental 0.5 RDM / $1 vs. the PP cards 0.2 PQM / $1. This sets a 2.5 RDM : $1 PQM ratio, which puts a price on PQMs earned this way at $0.025 to $0.050. Given that PQMs cost atleast $0.08 or more each if purchased early in the year via award accelerator, this is a pretty good deal for those who anticipate falling short of the upcoming years desired Silver / Gold / Platinum threshold.
Benefits unique to the PP card:
- 1000 FPQM per $5,000 spend (or 0.2 / $1)
- FPQMs are only valid for Premier Silver / Gold / Platinum status, expire 3 years after earning
- 1 RDM / $1 card spend (x2 hotel & rental cars for personal card, x2 restaurants, gas, office supplies for business card)
- Premier Qualifying Dollar (PQD) waiver (no minimum card spend, doesnt apply to 1K)
Benefits unique to the Club card:
- 1.5 RDM / $1 card spend
- PQD waiver (with $25,000 minimum card spend, doesnt apply to 1K)
Benefits shared between PP and Club cards:
- $395 annual fee
- United club membership (vs. $450 1K/GS, $500 Platinum, $550 Gold, $550 Silver, $550 GM, +$550 with spouse)
-Waiver of 4 segment on United flights for Premier qualification (removed in 2020)
- Premier Access (group 2 boarding)
- 2 free checked bags (vs. 1 Silver, 2 Gold, 3 Platinum)
- Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum
- Hertz Hertz President's Circle status (vs. Five Star for Premier Silver / Gold) (expiring 31 January 2023)
- CPU on award tickets
- No <21 day award booking fees (vs. $50 Silver, $25 Gold, $0 Platinum)
- No foreign transaction fees
- Concierge service
Benefits compared to Explorer card:
- only $95 annual fee
- only 1 free bag for cardholder and 1 companion
- 1 RDM / $1 card spend, +10,000 bonus after $25,000 card spend)
- 2 single-use club passes
- Premier Access (group 2 boarding)
- Premier Qualifying Dollar waiver (with $25,000 minimum card spend)

thanks this was very helpful
i didnt even realize this part at all, that there is a minimum 300 per flight, now i see it's in the fine print from UA
<3 flights in Q1 - get min. 300 PQP per flight + whatever PQP earned from said flight. If over 300 (say 1000 PQP, you earn 2000 PQP total up to 1500)>

Gold isn't worth much though if you are not going to use it.
But, since you are out of JFK, it looks like you will have more options next year.
Gold bonus = 1750
Q1 Bonus = ~1000 note if you get this you probably have the 4 flight minimum and it implies you have some actual flying PQPs earned
FPQMs =1670 Check expiration dates, any expiring 3/31/21 must be transferred before that date (use all that expire in '21 between 1/1 and 3/31).
If expiry is not in 2021 do as airfly56 suggests and wait until you have flown your last 2021 segment, then apply what you need.
CC PQP earn = 500 only from 2021 spend
Actual Q1flights = ~1000 maybe a stretch or maybe not. I have three trips in first set up because of the PQP bonus and I feel more control over my personal space up front.
All of this gets you to 5920, a mere 1080 PQPs away. You could push some more spend on your card and get it to 1000 or even 1500 PQPs. You can buy P fares at reservation to substantially boost PQP earn for Q1 flights.
All of this is worth gaming out if, and only if, you see yourself flying a lot in 2022.

We group similar merchant codes into categories for purposes of making rewards offers to you. Please note: We make every effort to include all relevant merchant codes in our rewards categories. However, even though a merchant or some of the items that it sells may appear to fit within a rewards category, the merchant may not have a merchant code in that category. When this occurs, purchases with that merchant won’t qualify for rewards offers on purchases in that category. Purchases submitted by you, an authorized user, or the merchant through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology will not qualify in a rewards category if the technology is not set up to process the purchase in that rewards category. I already signed up for that offer, but cannot stop thinking about how Chase and United have failed those of us still holding on to this card. With the extension of previously-earned status and inability to apply FPQM to anything higher than Platinum, I am sitting on roughly 1600 FPQM that are going to expire in March. That equates to a substantial cash balance in useless benefits. I was hoping United and Chase would have come to some decision to allow the FPQMs to be converted to PQMs at a reasonable rate, or convert the FPQMs to regular miles, also at a reasonable rate. I become more annoyed when I think that those 1600 FPQM were the result of 8,000 in spending (200 FPQM for every 1000 dollars spent).
I have emailed Chase and United but get plated responses about how they are always looking for feedback.

Clearly Chase/United hates this card being open.

I believe that allowing these FPQMs to go towards 1K, it would cost something, but not nearly equate to what a typical 1K year has been. Demand is not expected to recover to previous levels for some time. It would be an easy way to get me, a leisure traveler to shut up, without much cost. I am sure they know what the impact is based on who has the card and their previous travel patterns. Between wasted FPQM and travel certificates galore with no plans to travel, I am trying hard to be optimistic that things will soon turn around!
Good luck to all of us!

Received my $50 TB credit today (1/6), expires 4/6/21. Just need to find a cheap destination.

I recently received a new card. Think the updated design looks much more crisp.

Had two questions and couldn't find anything when I searched the thread...
Can anyone confirm that the PQP earning works for an additional cardholder if you add one?
Is there any place to track where you are relative to the $12k spend threshold? Best I can figure is to estimate it based on looking at [spending on Chase site] since your [last 500 PQP deposit on UA site]. I unknowingly clicked over and earned a deposit in late December, which pretty much sucked. Oh well.

That Chase logo placement is similar to the newer Marriott Bonvy Visa.
The name "CHASE" followed by logo now appears on the reverse at the bottom right, below the "contactless" symbol (four 45 arcs).

Was able to sign up for the Q1 bonus as well via the link provided. Interesting that the PP is basically being treated like a Chase Freedom card at this point with regards to these categories. Sadly, only the drugstore one is of any use - I don't have a car, and I am busy working on the first $12k spend at 5x on the Freedom Flex at the moment. If they could bring back Amazon.com, that is definitely one I would amp up usage of...

Yes, as long as the card numbers are the same. i.e. my wife has the exact same card number as I do. Unlike Amex cards, two different card numbers... one account. With only one able to use amex offers.
Chase offers, both cards can use.
