This legacy Chase credit card is not taking new applications. Compiled below is a comparison of current card-derived vs. status-derived benefits.
Overall, the current benefits of the PP and the replacement Club card are nearly identical. The key trade-off is increased redeemable mile (RDM) earnings with the Club card vs. FPQM with the PP card. Basically, the Club card earns an incremental 0.5 RDM / $1 vs. the PP card’s 0.2 PQM / $1. This sets a 2.5 RDM : $1 PQM ratio, which puts a price on PQMs earned this way at $0.025 to $0.050. Given that PQMs cost atleast $0.08 or more each if purchased early in the year via award accelerator, this is a pretty good deal for those who anticipate falling short of the upcoming year’s desired Silver / Gold / Platinum threshold.
Benefits unique to the PP card:
- 1000 FPQM per $5,000 spend (or 0.2 / $1)
- FPQMs are only valid for Premier Silver / Gold / Platinum status, expire 3 years after earning
- 1 RDM / $1 card spend (x2 hotel & rental cars for personal card, x2 restaurants, gas, office supplies for business card)
- Premier Qualifying Dollar (PQD) waiver (no minimum card spend, doesn’t apply to 1K)
Benefits unique to the Club card:
- 1.5 RDM / $1 card spend
- PQD waiver (with $25,000 minimum card spend, doesn’t apply to 1K)
Benefits shared between PP and Club cards:
- $395 annual fee
- United club membership (vs. $450 1K/GS, $500 Platinum, $550 Gold, $550 Silver, $550 GM, +$550 with spouse)
-Waiver of 4 segment on United flights for Premier qualification (removed in 2020)
- Premier Access (group 2 boarding)
- 2 free checked bags (vs. 1 Silver, 2 Gold, 3 Platinum)
- Hyatt Gold Passport Platinum
- Hertz Hertz President's Circle status (vs. Five Star for Premier Silver / Gold) (expiring 31 January 2023)
- CPU on award tickets
- No <21 day award booking fees (vs. $50 Silver, $25 Gold, $0 Platinum)
- No foreign transaction fees
- Concierge service
Benefits compared to Explorer card:
- only $95 annual fee
- only 1 free bag for cardholder and 1 companion
- 1 RDM / $1 card spend, +10,000 bonus after $25,000 card spend)
- 2 single-use club passes
- Premier Access (group 2 boarding)
- Premier Qualifying Dollar waiver (with $25,000 minimum card spend)

Still have to use my ATM card when I go to London to buy a train ticket

Other than that I don't understand why there was a entire huge thread about getting a new card with a chip? Big deal. I almost threw out the card when it came. I wasn't expecting anything so I thought it was junk mail.
Meh!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just received my Presidents Plus Visa card and was able to activate the new card on Apple Pay.
I was surprised to initially receive an EMV MC given that by the end of this quarter the entire Chase consumer credit card portfolio is supposed to be converted to Visa.

Sorry to say, it still doesn't work with Apple Pay.
The question is ...
Has anyone confirmed that we're all being 'forced' over to a Visa card? Having Apple Pay would be nice, but it's not a deal breaker.
Now, Costco switching to Visa? That's a dealbreaker... and having a PPlus Visa that does Apple Pay *and* works at Costco?
Well, that's just awesome right there!

PresidentialPlus credit card - Benefits, Q&A, ....[2014-2015]
As per last few Visa Inc quarterly earnings call the chase portfolio conversion should be complete by the end of this quarter.
It's my understanding that this is all part of the larger chase visa private network deal from a couple of years ago. So while there maybe some exceptions but the vast majority of Chase issued debit and credit cards will be converted to Visa.

Makes me wonder if the PP card will be one of those exceptions ...

Two reasons if they don't convert chase will be liable for any fraud when the EMV mandate kicks in this October and the fact that Visa just launched the infinite card product in the USA.
This product fits the typical profile of an infinite card
Another thing to consider is if there are no plans to convert the card why would Chase spend the IT time and resources to develop the ability to convert the card from a MC to Visa at all

I canceled my PP club card as I'm no longer flying as much in general and not flying UA unless they're the cheapest. As a million miler, the incremental costs to retain plat vs. gold are too high for me since the RDM earn is slashed. This 'hub captive' is not as captive as perhaps they'd like me to be.
This might be old news. Ignore what it says on the website regarding the end of your club membership. It said Nov 2015 for me. However, I canceled my PP when my annual fee came up again last week and when you cancel you are cut off immediately from club access. Now this is fine with me as I'm *Gold on TK but just so you know...

I just received my "new" card with that silly chip, and it was just printed a short time ago, so I am not sure if there is a real grey card, or if it was recolored for the ad especially as it's not offered anymore.

Not certain of a change to Visa yet as I just received a replacement PP card (fraud) and the expiration date is 07/2019

My replacement for expiry 11/15 came, new expiry is 11/18. Front looks identical to the version set to expire except for the added chip. Same dark blue, still metal, so FWIW it does not look like the recent photo posted. UA MP# is engraved into the back on the replacement, the expiring version did not. Same MC version, it was not converted to the Visa some have. I prefer the WEMC version anyway. AF still grandfathered in at $395

I've recently discovered the metal PP card is superior to other plastic credit cards for jimmying your house door open when you forget to bring your keys with you and accidentally shut the door behind you. Also the Chase website makes it very easy to get a replacement with a few simple clicks since such use tends to destroy the card in the process.

I had a potential fraud issue in October. My new card is identical to what you described except my expiration date is set for 10/18.
