Account Types and Stipulations

The United Pass Plus Flex program comes in 2 varieties: Individual and Corporate. The Individual accounts have a minimum investment of $25,000 and the corporate accounts have a minimum of $50,000. These funds are put into a UATP (Universal Air Travel Plan - http://www.uatp.com/) Account and you are given a debit card (just the credentials, no actual card) to be used for purchasing United and Partner Tickets (plus many other things, outlined below). These funds are to be used over the course of 1 year from when the contract is signed.
  • Individuals are allowed 1 additional deposit into their account throughout the 1 year contract without a fee, and corporate accounts are allowed up to three. Any additional deposits are charged a 5% fee.
  • The use of the funds can be extended without renewing the contract for up to 2 additional months for a fee of $600.
  • Contracts can be renewed for the following year starting in month 10 of current contract.
  • Any remaining funds in your account will carry over into the next year, but will have no bearing on the following years contract benefits (discussed below).
  • If funds remain in your account at the end of the contract and you decide to not renew, United is entitled to whatever remains in your account.
  • All travel purchased with your funds must be completed before 30 days after your end-of-contract date.
  • Individual plans are for a single person (the account holder). However, beginning in 2019, travel can include one companion provided the travel is booked under the same record as the account holder. Accounts are audited frequently.

The following payment methods are able to be used to fund the initial investment:
  • Bank Transfer to United

    - United
    - United Express
    - ANA (All Nippon Airlines)
    - Austrian Airlines

    - Anything from United not requiring a physical payment method

Note: When purchasing anything with your UATP funds, you may not split payment. You must be able to fully fund the purchase using your UATP account or else another payment method should be used.
  • There are some reports that travel vouchers and your Travel Bank funds can be used as a partial payment in combination with the UATP account.

Other Information
  • Discount on Hertz rentals available for Pass Plus members. Funds from UATP account cannot be used for rentals.
  • Booking of tickets can be done via United.com, through the Pass Plus reservations office, or through your travel agent. Booking through the Mobile app is not yet possible.
  • Booking via a TA may result in a non-016 ticket and impact RDM earnings

Talking to someone who uses the similar AA program made me revisit consideration of PassPlus for UA. I routinely spend more than $10K a year on flights (except for pandemics); did so in 21 and will do so for 22. So a $10K deposit will not go unused. But I am already 1K (may go down to Plat again next year). I prefer to buy domestic F and discount international business class or upgrade. I look for bargains, at those upper ends - not one of those that pays $2K or domestic F or $6K for international business.

So would I get anything for a $10K deposit that I don't already get as a 1K? Maybe a small discount (which may or may not be offset by inflation)? If it increased my chance of upgrades it might be more interesting.

That level of spend is a low-value proposition for United & I can't imagine they'd have the slightest interest in even taking a $10K deposit, let alone incentivizing it.

10k for individual, barely 2% for domestic deep- discounted F (Z/P), int'l 2% for discounted Z

given that United wants you to accure 13.5k PQP for 1K (meaning you should be spending at least $13.5k on United metal, excluding the partner PQP tricks), $10k is peanuts?

you may want to look at this. barely any benefit (basically tie-breaker for any standby/upgrades given everything else equal), but shouldn't "cost" you anything, just need your company to set up an agreement

New Corporate Preferred (upgrade tiebreaker) / new 'preferred' seating section

Apparently this is correct - it must be very low to them.

I was considering moving some corporate travel from AA to UA to use UA where there are overlapping routes. I reached out to them for PassPlus, selecting the $10k amount to see how it would go. Aside from a stock email sent by "Jonathan from United", I have not heard a thing in a month's time. So it does not appear they are focused on it.

And Jonathan is now a robot. A bad one at that.

Just asked for information about individual membership. this might work for us. Looking at 10k to start if that is available. Also might have to call them if email fails.

I would recommend calling them, and wished I had read the wiki beforehand. I've emailed them three times, with no response with first two emails. On the third email, I received an automated response, with no further call backs. With UA's great technology, pass plus communication is not one of them.

The phone number in the Wiki just sends you to an automated voicemail that says it is no longer in service and that they are only responding by email. Is there another number to get a hold of sales?

Sorry, I didn't try the numbers listed in Wiki, and didn't realize they didn't work. I've decided to choose AA's AirPass program due to UA poor communication to try to sign up and inquire about PassPlus. I can't imagine what hoops to jump through if something goes wrong, when signing up for a program is so difficult. When I've contacted UA, they only gave me the PassPluss email address, [email protected].

Perhaps other active PassPlus people can chime in, on how to contact an agent/manager directly.

No problem I agree with you. If this is the system, it’s not worth it.

Flex vs Flat Rate

I am considering PassPlus and was offered 2 choices - the flex discounts vs. flat rate zone pricing. The agent provided a few examples of flat pricing for the routes I typically take and they seemed quite good. Does anyone have experience with the flat rate pricing and is it recommended?

I was offered PlusPass the other day. My spend isnt big enough to justify (about $25K per annum) but we have a client who pays for it every year.

I am a 1k considering a Plus Pass.

In regards to the Pluspass purchase for $50k which also gets you GS status, I have some questions:

1, do purchasers of PP get any discount on fares?
2. How long is the 50k credit valid for?
3. Can it be used for family members

Correct.
Are you still doing PassPlus? Just wondering if you are discussing renewals, etc.
