Account Types and Stipulations

The United Pass Plus Flex program comes in 2 varieties: Individual and Corporate. The Individual accounts have a minimum investment of $25,000 and the corporate accounts have a minimum of $50,000. These funds are put into a UATP (Universal Air Travel Plan - http://www.uatp.com/) Account and you are given a debit card (just the credentials, no actual card) to be used for purchasing United and Partner Tickets (plus many other things, outlined below). These funds are to be used over the course of 1 year from when the contract is signed.
  • Individuals are allowed 1 additional deposit into their account throughout the 1 year contract without a fee, and corporate accounts are allowed up to three. Any additional deposits are charged a 5% fee.
  • The use of the funds can be extended without renewing the contract for up to 2 additional months for a fee of $600.
  • Contracts can be renewed for the following year starting in month 10 of current contract.
  • Any remaining funds in your account will carry over into the next year, but will have no bearing on the following years contract benefits (discussed below).
  • If funds remain in your account at the end of the contract and you decide to not renew, United is entitled to whatever remains in your account.
  • All travel purchased with your funds must be completed before 30 days after your end-of-contract date.
  • Individual plans are for a single person (the account holder). However, beginning in 2019, travel can include one companion provided the travel is booked under the same record as the account holder. Accounts are audited frequently.

Nope. When I go through a new booking on JetStream, and get to the payment page the only form of payment shown are my credit card options. No options for ETC or FFC. The way you described it makes perfect sense, but that option is simply not there.

FFC should not exist for cancelled PP secure tickets since they would just be refunded, and it makes sense that cancelled reservations for other types of tickets could not be converted to a PP secure ticket. I think ETCs do show up, but I am not sure.

I do get FFCs for Flex tickets that I've changed and result in residual credit. But, yes, Secure tickets wouldn't work that way.

Edit: Yeah - just tried and can't access FFCs in combination w/ Flex fare bookings online. Maybe have to call in to PassPlus reservations (800-727-7752) agent to apply? That would be a PITA, but seems to me credits arising from Flex tickets should be usable against new Flex tickets/flights.

My current contract for $15K expires December but if the amenity funds are reduced further to 20% I think that barely tilts it in favor of chucking the program. Looks better to put my flights on my existing Amex and buying UC membership/wifi separately as long as I don't need the extra pqps from card spend and mile redemptions. I'd keep my Quest card though as it barely pays for itself with $125 credit and 10k miles back on redemptions.

Did anyone else get this email yesterday evening?

FWIW, I got an email about renewing, suggesting that I go online to do so. There was no mention of program changes. My current term ends in 45 days, and I will likely renew.

Travel Certificate booking class and entity

Travel Certificate booking class and entity
should be Travel Certificate booking class and availability. Opps! ( Friday afternoon brain fog!)

Say I put in 10K.
I get 20% United bucks or 2K
1-Am I correct that only the "fathom shadow account of united bucks"t can be used to buy round trip certificates? (i.e. I could only buy $2K max?

2-I see economy fare classes available on the detailed certificate pricing as only offering three fare basis as eligible
"y" , "H" & "K"
  • Highest full fare: Y.
  • Full fare: B.
  • High fare: M, E, H, U.

I thought this PassPlus program might be a travel hack for peak holiday season travel to resort ares ( Cabo, Caribbean etc ) But it seems that flight for "festive week" 2024 are pretty much
"E" class.
I read is that E is one fare basis higher than M, So I'd have to use B "pricing"? Am I correct?

I actually saw prices on EWR to Los Cabos sky dive for this past x-mas- 'new years week.
I didn't pay attention to if the price of the fare was lowered in the same fare class or when united lowers their cheapest available non -basic economy coach fare , it is done via releasing cheaper fare buckets that previously showed 0

Where did you guys see the 20% vs 25% amenity funds update? Are there any other changes, such as updates to the zone pricing?

Also, any idea why I can't renew online? I got an email with instructions how to renew, and I tried to do so, but the renew button isn't working.

My understanding is that you are locked into those three fare classes, but happy to be corrected. My thought process was similar to yours for round-trip Asia tickets during the summer when it's peak, but there were no K fares until August so I ended up deciding against contributing more funds for the amenity points. Plus they raised award rates this year so it was the right move in hindsight.

The correct order, from high to low, is actually M, E, U, H.
