2024 MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge
We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to participate in our 2024 MileagePlus® Premier® Status Match Challenge promotion, offering top-tier flyers of many other airlines a comparable status in the MileagePlus program. This offer is valid for requests received between January 5, 2024, and December 20, 2024.
Program details
If you meet the criteria to participate in the Premier Status Match offer, your account will be upgraded to Premier Silver, Premier Gold or Premier Platinum status for 120 days based on the level you hold in your current frequent flyer program. 2024 Premier Status Match requests are available for offer periods that begin no later than September 3, 2024, and end by December 31, 2024.

You may still sign up for a 2024 Premier Status Match between September 4 and December 20, 2024, however you must elect to start your 120-day challenge period no later than September 3, 2024. Qualifying flights taken after September 3, but prior to registration will be considered.
The following is a partial list of carriers that we match to.


Note 1K change requests can be made but will be reviewed -- DL Diamond, AA ExecPlat, .. expect a 6,000 PQP and 18 PQF challenge on flights operated by UA/UX
Submit your Status Match request
To be considered for Premier status through this promotion, please complete this MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge form. We will send you an email to let you know if your request is approved.
Required information:
  • MileagePlus account number (If you are not yet a member, join today.)
  • Valid email address on your MileagePlus account.
  • A digital copy of your 2024 membership card, including membership cards stored in the digital wallet on your phone or your airlines mobile app version, for the frequent flyer program you are matching from or if you do not have a card, your most recent mileage statement. The membership card/documentation must clearly identify your:
    • full first and last name
    • current elite status
    • current elite status expiration date or validity period, which must be valid through the duration of the current calendar year.
    • the frequent flyer number
    • the frequent flyer program and/or Airline name
Please allow 7-14 business days for a response and for your account to be upgraded.

Please note:
  • Offer is not valid for members who have participated in the MileagePlus Status Match program or received a Premier status exception within the last 5 years.
  • Members who hold elite status because of a trial or temporary elite status in the other airline program are not eligible for the MileagePlus Premier Status Match program.
  • Premier membership materials will not be issued for the 120-day offer period. You may enjoy Premier benefits on United- or United Express-operated flights by providing your account number when making reservations or at check-in. During the 120-day offer period, you may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United's partner airlines, including access to Star AllianceTM lounges.
  • Through this offer, you will not be able to qualify for a higher Premier status level than the one you are matched to in MileagePlus. For example, if you are matched to Premier Silver, you will not be able to earn Premier Gold status through this offer, even if you will fly more than the 8 PQF and earn more than 2,600PQP on flights operated by United or United Express during the offer period. Earned 2024 Premier status: Customers who earn Premier status through this promotion will have their accounts updated in the system within 5-7 business days of completion and posting of the outlined PQF and PQP requirements for the status level matched to in MileagePlus. Earned 2024 Premier status is valid through January 2025. The MileagePlus status is valid through January 2026 for customers who earn Premier status through this promotion on or after July 1, 2024.

*For customers who meet the PQP and PQF requirement of this promotion on or after July 1, 2024, status is valid through January 2026, unless a higher Premier level is earned. Go to mileageplus.com/premier for more information on the MileagePlus Premier program.

Terms and conditions

  1. Offer is not valid for members who have participated in the MileagePlus® Status Match program or received a Premier Status Exception within the last 5 years.
  2. To request a MileagePlus Status Match, a participant must be a member of MileagePlus and hold an active account with an eligible airline and have an eligible elite level valid for the current calendar year. Members who have qualified for their current elite level with the other airline due to meeting published criteria, lifetime status awards or completion of a promotional offer are eligible for the Status Match program. Members who hold elite status because of a trial elite status in the other airline program, are not eligible for the MileagePlus Premier Status Match program. Requests from members who otherwise meet the criteria for a Premier Status Match will not receive such status if the member already holds equivalent or higher status in the MileagePlus Program. United reserves the right to request supplemental documentation from participants to determine Status Match eligibility.
  3. United reserves the right to rescind any Status Match granted, if during the course of an audit or investigation United determines that an individual is in violation of the MileagePlus program rules.
  4. Premier membership materials will not be issued for the 120-day offer period. You may enjoy Premier benefits on United- or United Express-operated flights by providing your account number when making reservations or at check-in. During the 120-day offer period, you may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United's partners, including access to Star Alliance lounges.
  5. Program details

If you submit your request before June 30, 2021, and meet the criteria to participate in the Premier status match offer, your account will be upgraded to Premier Silver, Premier Gold or Premier Platinum status for 120 days based on the level you hold in your current frequent flyer program.

To keep the matched Premier status for the remainder of the 2021 program year, you will need to earn a certain number of Premier qualifying flights (PQF) AND Premier qualifying points (PQP) on flights operated by United or United Express® within the 120-day Offer Period.* The number of both PQF and PQP you must earn depends on the Premier status level you are matched to in MileagePlus.

  • MileagePlus account number (If you are not yet a member, join today.)
  • Valid email address on your MileagePlus account

It must clearly identify your name, current elite status, including your status expiration date or validity period, which should be valid through the duration of the current calendar year. Basic idea
  • Have status with a competitor {UA's choice on programs it will match} and want status with UA
  • Customers who have Star Alliance™ Silver or Gold status are excluded from this offer.
  • A no-fee challenge to complete XXX PQMs or YY PQSs in 90 days. Not PQD requirement. Only flights on UA/UX operated flights count.
  • Challenge is for a specific level -- no commitment by UA to offer higher status if you meet a higher level during the challenge nor for UA to offer a lower level if you fail to meet the offered challenge.
  • During the challenge, you will have UA status but not *A status. (While UA does state this, appears if your BP shows *G status, you will receive those benefits from partners, including lounge access, many times)
  • If successful before July 1, you have status (including *A status) until 31 January of the next year. If completed after July 1, you have status (including *A status) until 31 January of the second following year. ("Success" / "Completed" means meeting the challenge requirements)
  • Plat status challengers earn 1 RPU on completion of challenge (*NEW*), 1 RPU + 2 GPU for 1K challenges. Additional RPUs/GPUs require meeting the traditional PQM/PQS/PQD thresholds.

Do you have a corporate travel agent? Have them reach out to UA. $40K in sales may be enough to get an exception.

Alternatively, is there any chance it would be $50K? I believe they have a program where if you pre-pay for $50K in travel, you can get immediate Global Services status; I don't believe they match to GS...

Your upgrade chances on those flights are essentially zero, whether you have status or not. There are no free upgrades on those flights, and upgrade instruments rarely clear.

EWR- LAX on a 787, 7am on Feb 20 something... I booked a few days ago but canceled within 24 hours... $120 something plus an RPU got me immediately into a nice real Polaris seat.... they do exist, but admittedly not common... would have enjoyed that :-(

-- you have already provided UA with the AA account info and identified your present UA account
-- You now want to use that same AA account info to match to a new UA account to hide the fact you have a present UA account
-- then later you want to tell UA you have two accounts and would UA please merge them and not notice the multiple deceptions

I wonder if UA might have thought about this approach and just might catch on at some point you are violating the MP program rules

Suggest trying some of the other ideas

Status marching on UA but only hitting lower tier’s retention requirements

If I status match to Platinum on UA and fail to hint that level’s retention requirements in the 3 months but hit the numbers needed to retain a Gold match, what will happen? Will UA let me keep Gold for the year, or will it drop me down to nothing/Silver based solely on annual requirements?

Presuming the 1K match is still 36K PQM looks like I'll need another 15K or so on UA metal to make that for 2019/2020, that may be a bridge too far. Can anyone confirm that UA will do a soft landing to the next level down if you don't quite make the challenge level?

In my case, if I go for 1K and don't quite make it, can I expect them to grant Platinum? This one ticket will make that for me, the question is just whether or not I should shoot for 1K.

If I status match to Platinum on UA and fail to hint that level’s retention requirements in the 3 months but hit the numbers needed to retain a Gold match, what will happen? Will UA let me keep Gold for the year, or will it drop me down to nothing/Silver based solely on annual requirements?
The general answer is the match will expire. Occasionally there are reports of UA offering a lower status, but the more common outcome is the challenge expires and you are locked out for 5 years from another challenge.

It is not standard for UA to do soft landings on challenges. While 1K status matches may be a special case, it is doubtful you will get UA to be a commitment in advance.

any way to expedite / customize the status match challenger?

I am doing a somewhat last minute biz class refundable ORD-GRU round trip. I used to be 1k and GS, but years ago. Now I am a nobody and have Gold on AA (Platinum until two weeks ago). I filled out the online form, included screenshots of my current and former AA status, but the site says thank you, wait 7-14 days. I had to buy yesterday, and will fly in a week. Any way I can parlay this spend into UA status? I plan to do a lot more international, so I would think they would want me... but who do I call to get some special service?

You can call the MileagePlus number and ask them to process the challenge request, but that shouldn’t be necessary. Even if they don’t process the request until after your first flight, it should still count, as long as you requested a start date on or before the day of that flight when you submitted the request.

I was approved last week for a status match with a start date of today. Is it normal that the website still shows that I have no status?

If you start the challenge in mid April 2019 (have 90 days) and complete the platinum challenge by mid July 2019, will the status last until Jan 2021? Or Jan 2020. I’m unclear as to whether July 1st is the enrollment date or the status completion date. Anyone know? Thanks.

The challenge completion date

as it states
If completed after July 1, you have status (including *A status) until 31 January of the second following year.

Did your status update eventually?
I was matched today with an email confirmation but the website and app have not updated as yet.

Yeah, it took a day (that is, it updated the day after my match started, and also my flight)

My flight credited correctly though. It counted towards the status match (there is a counter somewhere... mystatus website I think?) and I got 8x miles (not 5x).

However, no status showed on my day of travel. I was in first class so I didn't care, but had I been in econ and needed the status for priority boarding, comp upgrade, E+ seat selection, free checked bag, etc, I probably would have been out of luck. So if you are planning on flying econ it's probably a good idea to start the match a day or two before your first flight.
