Typical challenge (for 2020)
To keep the matched Premier status for the remainder of the 2020 program year, you will need to earn a certain number of Premier qualifying flights (PQF) AND Premier qualifying points (PQP) on flights operated by United or United Express® within a 90-day Offer Period.* The number of both PQF and PQP you must earn depends on the Premier status level you are matched to in MileagePlus.

MileagePlus Premier status PQF and PQP requirements
  • Premier Silver Fly 4 PQF and earn 1,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express
  • Premier Gold Fly 6 PQF and earn 2,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express
  • Premier Platinum Fly 10 PQF and earn 3,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express
  • Offer is not valid for members who have participated in the MileagePlus status match program or received a Premier Status exception within the last 5 years.
  • Members who hold elite status because of a trial or temporary elite status in the other airline program, are not eligible for the MileagePlus Premier status match program.
  • Premier membership materials will be not issued for the 90-day Offer Period. You may enjoy Premier benefits on United- or United Express-operated flights by providing your account number when making reservations or at check-in. During the 90-day Offer Period, you may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United's partner airlines, including access to Star Alliance lounges.
  • Through this offer, you will not be able to qualify for a higher Premier status level than the one you are matched to in MileagePlus. For example, if you are matched to Premier Silver, you will not be able to earn Premier Gold status through this offer, even if you will fly more than the 6 PQF and earn more than 2,000 PQP on flights operated by United or United Express during the Offer Period. However, you will be able to qualify to a higher status level if you reach one of the published qualification thresholds for Premier status.
  • Upon meeting both the PQF and PQP requirements to retain Premier Platinum status through this offer, members will be awarded 20 PlusPoints, which will be credited to their account within 7-10 business days. Premier members can earn 40 PlusPoints upon meeting all standard published qualification requirements of Premier Platinum status and 280 PlusPoints upon meeting all the standard published qualification requirements of Premier 1K® status.
  • If you are unable to complete both the PQF and PQP requirements within the 90-day Offer Period, your matched MileagePlus Premier status will expire, and you may be returned to a lower earned Premier level, or general member status, at United's sole discretion.
  • Qualifying PQF and PQP must be posted to your MileagePlus account.

Earned 2020 Premier status: Customers who earn Premier status through this promotion will have their accounts updated in the system within five to seven business days of completion and posting of the outlined PQF and PQP requirements for the status level matched to in MileagePlus. Earned 2020 Premier status is valid through January 2021. The MileagePlus status is valid through January 2022 for customers who earn Premier status through this promotion on or after July 1, 2020.

*For customers who meet the PQM or PQS requirement of this promotion on or after July 1, 2020, status is valid through January 2022, unless a higher Premier level is earned. Go to mileageplus.com/premier for more information on the MileagePlus Premier program

Terms and conditions
  1. Offer is not valid for members who have participated in the MileagePlus® status match program or received a Premier Status Exception within the last 5 years.
  2. To request a MileagePlus status match, a participant must be a member of MileagePlus and hold an active account with an eligible airline and have an eligible elite level valid for the current calendar year. Members who have qualified for their current elite level with the other airline due to meeting published criteria, lifetime status awards or completion of a promotional offer are eligible for the status match program. Members who hold elite status because of a trial or temporary elite status in the other airline program, are not eligible for the MileagePlus Premier status match program. Requests from members who otherwise meet the criteria for a premier status match will not receive such status if the member already holds equivalent or higher status in the MileagePlus Program.
  3. United reserves the right to rescind any status match granted, if during the course of an audit or investigation United determines that an individual is in violation of the MileagePlus program rules.
  4. Premier membership materials will be not issued for the 90-day Offer Period. You may enjoy Premier benefits on United®- or United® Express-operated flights by providing your account number when making reservations or at check-in. During the 90-day Offer Period, you may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits with United's partners, including access to Star Alliance lounges.
  5. Through this offer, you will not be able to qualify for a higher Premier status level than the one you are matched to in MileagePlus, even if you will fly more than qualifying travel requirements during the Offer Period. However, you will be able to qualify to a higher status level if you reach one of the published qualification thresholds for Premier status.
  6. If you are unable to complete the PQF and PQP requirement within the 90-day Offer Period, your matched MileagePlus Premier status will expire, and you may be returned to a lower earned Premier level, or general member status, at United's sole discretion.
  7. Qualifying PQF and PQP must be posted to your MileagePlus account.
  8. Offer valid for qualifying paid travel completed within 90 days from time of account upgrade (the "Offer Period").
  9. Participation does not guarantee Premier status. Matched status will expire after 90 days, unless the matched level or a higher level of Premier status is earned or awarded prior to that date.
  10. Valid on flights operated by United and United Express. Not valid on United-marketed codeshare flights operated by other carriers. Flights must be posted to the MileagePlus account in order to qualify. MileagePlus award travel does not qualify for this offer. Basic Economy tickets do not qualify for this offer. Promotional PQF or PQP, and/or credit card PQF or PQP do not count toward this offer. Other restrictions may apply. Offer subject to change without notice.
  11. Customers who earn Premier status through this promotion will have their accounts updated in the system within five to seven business days of completion and posting of the outlined PQF and PQP requirement for the status level matched to in MileagePlus.
  12. Earned 2020 Premier status is valid through January 2021. The MileagePlus status is valid through January 2022 for customers who earn Premier status through this promotion on or after July 1, 2020.
  13. Upon meeting the PQF and PQP requirements to retain Premier Platinum status through this offer, members will be awarded 20 PlusPoints, which will be credited to their account within 7-10 business days. PlusPoints will not otherwise be awarded based on matched status or status reached through the MileagePlus Premier Status Match challenge.
  14. The sale, barter or other transfer or attempted sale, barter or other transfer of any mileage, certificates, awards, benefits or status, other than as authorized and/or sponsored by United, is expressly prohibited. Any mileage, certificates, awards, benefits or status sold, bartered or otherwise transferred is in violation of the Rules and any accounts or Members involved in such sales, barters or other transfers may be subject to United's remedies as described in the MileagePlus program rules. The acquisition, use, transfer or attempted acquisition, use or transfer of mileage, certificates, awards, benefits or status that have been acquired by purchase, barter or other transfer in violation of the Rules may result in United's exercise of United's remedies as described in the MileagePlus program rules.
  15. Miles accrued, awards, and benefits issued are subject to change and are subject to the rules of the United MileagePlus program, including without limitation the Premier program (the "MileagePlus Program"), which are expressly incorporated herein. United may change the MileagePlus Program including, but not limited to, rules, regulations, travel awards and special offers or terminate the MileagePlus Program at any time and without notice. United and its subsidiaries, affiliates and agents are not responsible for any products or services of other participating companies and partners. Taxes and fees related to award travel are the responsibility of the member. Bonus award miles, award miles and any other miles earned through non-flight activity do not count toward qualification for Premier status unless expressly stated otherwise. The accumulation of mileage or Premier status or any other status does not entitle members to any vested rights with respect to the MileagePlus Program. All calculations made in connection with the United MileagePlus Program and/or the Premier Program, including without limitation the accumulation of mileage and the satisfaction of the qualification requirements of the Premier Program, and/or the revisions of calculations (including any estimates), will be made by United Airlines and MileagePlus in their discretion and such calculations will be considered final. Code:
2019 Requirements
MP Status Goal PQM or PQS requirements in 90 days (UX/UA only)
Silver Fly 7,000 PQM or 8 PQS
Gold Fly 12,500 PQM or 15 PQS
Platinum Fly 18,000 PQM or 22 PQS
 1K Fly 35,000 PQM or 40 PQS
Basic idea

  • Have status with a competitor {UA's choice on programs it will match} and want status with UA
  • Customers who have Star Alliance™ Silver or Gold status are excluded from this offer.
  • A no-fee challenge to complete XXX PQMs or YY PQSs in 90 days. Not PQD requirement. Only flights on UA/UX operated flights count.
  • Challenge is for a specific level -- no commitment by UA to offer higher status if you meet a higher level during the challenge nor for UA to offer a lower level if you fail to meet the offered challenge.
  • During the challenge, you will have UA status but not *A status. (While UA does state this, appears if your BP shows *G status, you will receive those benefits from partners, including lounge access, many times)
  • If successful before July 1, you have status (including *A status) until 31 January of the next year. If completed after July 1, you have status (including *A status) until 31 January of the second following year. ("Success" / "Completed" means meeting the challenge requirements)
  • Plat status challengers earn 1 RPU on completion of challenge (*NEW*), 1 RPU + 2 GPU for 1K challenges. Additional RPUs/GPUs require meeting the traditional PQM/PQS/PQD thresholds.
  • Not valid on United-marketed codeshare flights operated by other carriers.
  • Flights must be posted to the MileagePlus account in order to qualify.
  • MileagePlus award travel does not qualify for this offer.
  • No Premier card until the challenge is met.
  • Class-of-service bonus Premier qualifying miles (PQM) and Premier qualifying segments (PQS) will count toward this offer; however, other bonus PQM/PQS, promotional PQM/PQS, and/or credit card PQM do not count toward this offer. Other restrictions may apply.
  • Restricted to 1 challenge every 5 years

MileagePlus Premier Status Match Challenge {New 2020 terms}

I have Platinum on AA and am thinking about doing the corporate status challenge to UA Gold. It requires 25k PQM and $3000 PQD in 6 months. Most of my travel will be on other alliance partners. Does anyone know if the PQD waiver for credit spend counts for this challenge?

You need to review the specific terms of your corporate status challenge program.

The publicly available program only counts flights operated by UA or UAX:

To keep the matched Premier status for the remainder of the 2017 program year, you will need to earn a certain number of Premier qualifying miles (PQM) or Premier qualifying segments (PQS) on flights operated by United or United Express® within a 90-day Offer Period.
Status Challenge

But your program rules may be different.

Challenge in question

I read through the terms and conditions and it says that travel is not limited to just UA and nothing about PQD waivers.

This (TB2250) is not the standard challenge (TB8230) and does seem to allow partner travel.

It is more generous in other ways also, 180 days vs 90 days.

But this challegne has a PQD requirement while the "more traditional" challenge is PQM only, no PQD requirement.

Nope. But you do need two segments on UA metal.

Buy status?, depends on what you mean.

-- you can buy PQMs but it is too late for 2016 and you need to meet the other conditions, such as PQDs and 4 segment minimum unless you have a waiver.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...questions.html

-- You may be able to improve your 2016 results in a January status (up one level) buy-up program, has not yet been announced for 2017.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...p-program.html

-- Using the UA PassPlus program, a sufficient large advance payment can get you status.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...solidated.html

-- UA does not have a program like the old US did and a flat cash payment for status of any level.

Sorry if this question has already been asked but BA Silver (OW Sapphire) will give me a UA Gold challenge right?

The site clearly showed an expiration 90 days after they granted, not after my request date. I didn't follow up, since I had plenty of leeway.

Plt Challenge PQD

It looks like I will be doing a challenge for Premier Plt over the next few months. Can anyone enlighten me on how the PQD works on partner airlines and if partner flight activity counts for the purposes of the challenge.

I am able to book business and have an itinerary that has two domestic segments on UA and 4 international segments on SAS. The flights were booked as UA and SAS, not as codeshares...

bna-iad UA
iad-cph SAS
cph-haj SAS
lhr-arn SAS
arn-ord SAS
ord-bna UA

Thanks!

Only United and United Express operated flights count towards the match challenge. Unfortunately, your SAS operated flights will not count (even if they were codeshares). There is no PQD requirement for the challenge.

Even though the SAS flights do not count for the challenge, they will still count towards status in general, right??

Yes, they will still count towards regular status earned by the year, assuming SAS is in an earning fare class. Watch out for that, on international carriers, not all fare classes earn full (or in some cases, any, RDM/PQM/PQD) - not sure how SAS is on that.

They will not accrue PQD unless ticketed by UA.
