UA123 ended up arriving IAD 3hr55min late after the gas stop

UA65 LIS-EWR arrived 4:28 late after a very lengthy gas stop in YQX (probably slot controlled after that stop due to WX in EWR).

UA870 SYD-SFO is canceled for 1/7 for MX

Ooops, just found one more for 1/6

UA24 SNN-EWR will arrive 10+ hours late and flightaware is looking a little weird, it may be in the process of diverting

Sadly not only is it an inconvenience to passengers, but United's own employees who have to commute, and the ground staff who need to deal with the disgruntled passengers.

If it makes you feel any better, HA51 (JFK-HNL) was supposed to leave at 9:51am and arrive into HNL at 3:50pm, left at 11:51pm and was estimated into HNL at 6:40am.

Looks like there will be an extra sector on 1/7 UA 2078 ORD-HKG departing at 830 and arriving into HKG at 1409.
And don't forget that the day started with 1/6 895 HKG-SIN canceling due to "flight crew availability", which then cancels 1/7 896 SIN-HKG

Guess I should be happy that I was only delayed 3.5 hours coming home from Oslo on Saturday (though would happily have endured an extra half-hour if EU261 would kick in!).

You really could hardly write a worst start to the year for international operations, especially since there's been no real weather event...can't wait til the next snopocalypse comes.

The delay threshold for EU 261 compensation is 3 hours.

In many cases, the employees do better, at least financially -- with overtime, pay for canceled flights they don't have to work, extra per diem when they get stuck in a city, extra duty time if they work a delay, deadhead pay if they have to get flown around due to the issue.

I follow this flight frequently, and it seems the reliability is non existent ever since the equipment changed to a 777. Its been cancelled the last few days, already 1h 25 min delay. The a/c typically comes in from IAD (scheduled) at 7:40. Its delayed or cancelled almost daily.

Does anyone know if operations is going to adjust a/c rotations or will this be another notorious unreliable flight?

I am well versed in how the crews can make out with delayed/cancelled flights. In some cases I know where the FA's game the system. Some of the international bases really make out with this when they get guaranteed their trips and are not reassigned. I think being paid for cancelled flights happens less at the domiciles with more than just a few flights since the options for them to be reassigned is greater. The smart FA's schedule their trips back to back and hope for the legality issue to rear its ugly head. Some of the legality issues easily become an issue where the window is < 30 minutes and on some of the Europe to US flights that are operated by the foreign domiciles.

If I am not mistaken it takes a while for the overtime (5 in 1) pay to kick in and usually this only happens when the crew desk gets desperate and makes a deal with the flight attendants so they will extend their duty time maximum in order to get a delayed flight out.

The deadheading of crew really does screw with those on the UG list especially on 3 cabin aircraft as the DHD crew are booked in positive space business as long as there is space. I have seen and heard of crew who are suppose to DHD home but call the crew desk and request to be converted to work, because let's just say sitting in Y on a 744 transpac is not fun.

This plane just came out of maintenance in CWF for Wifi installation and has been sitting in ORD since the 3rd. This frame (N791UA) is assigned to UA 895 ORDHKG on the 7th so we'll see if it's really ready to go.
