Aren't the 787s flight deck crew based out of IAH and EWR? If so, then it will be a significant delay to get one (or more) into LAX

but it is probably more dependent on where the replacement pilot is resident which can be very different from the home base. Although UA may have a on call pilot scheduled at the home base.

68 EWR - ARN delayed 24 min due to late inbound aircraft even though the aircraft blocked into the gate at 3:54p plenty of time to turn it in time for the scheduled departure time of 5:15p

...And the incoming flight arrived 14 minutes early...
If arriving 14 minutes early is "late", UA apparently expect their flights to arrive even more ahead of schedule. Good to know.

Today's LHR-LAX is delayed almost two hours. Inbound late from IAD by 4 hours. Inbound into IAD from LHR was delayed over 6 hours. Unfortunately when I try to look up where the inbound to LHR that caused this whole mess in the first place came from the app tells me "the flight did not operate on that date".

Fun times here at LHR with lots of people unhappy. Good thing I just arrived and connecting to Europe instead of taking this LAX flight.

LAX to PVG

They were able to find a new787 pilot, quicker then what they had told us. They told us he was in route, so we boarded the plane without him and once he arrived, we began to taxi to the runway. Then we stopped. Apparently there was an issue with the plane computers so we had to return to the gate for about another 30 minutes.

Spoke to the crew when we finally did take off. Their inbound flight the day earlier had been delayed on the runway in IAD for around 2 hours due to weather. They managed to make up much of the time (website shows arrived 79 minutes late), but it was enough to push their hours to the point where they were mandated a longer (33 hours) break.

This even explains why the delay was published as 5 hours 29 minutes from an expected 12:10am departure - they blocked at 8:39pm - add 33 hours and you get 5:39am which was our exact scheduled departure time.

Funny thing is that the crew thought it was the pilots that were over hours, not them. It was only when they arrived at the airport they discovered that they were the cause of the delay and the pilots were fine due to a 4 man crew! Both those I spoke to said they would have preferred to leave on time...
