I had to log off and log back on for mine to reset.

What is more depressing is we don't have anything better to do on New Year's Eve :D

It may sound weird but I get a perverse joy seeing my account reset back to zero. Is it strange we look at our accounts minutes after midnight....of course it is. But most of us look at our accounts daily even when we're not flying :)

I definitely don't like seeing this when logging in. But yes, I do enjoy counting as it goes back to above 100K (I hope).

How does UA handle time zones? For instance, as I type this it's not yet 2015 in Hawaii. Are they also seeing zeros now?

It changed for me a little past 9PM PST.
But flight posting is based on local schedule departure time.

FWIW I'm currently in Hawaii and mine changed well before 12AM HST. Seemed to me like it sometime between 12AM EST and PST. I would assume closer to PST.

Happy New Year everyone!

Hooray! I don't believe in New Years resolutions, but I hope to keep my EQMs and spend on United as low as possible this year. Four tickets booked through February, and then I'm out!

I have only 3 trips booked on United this year. Going from platinum to silver will be though but after flying delta and getting places on time I am happy. Most of my international business is going to partners or just booking cheap business class deals. No more chasing status.

As a traveler who just advanced from Gold to Platinum, I want to take this special moment to thank you both personally for helping me get the upgrades you'll be foregoing. Your spirit of giving is commendable and deserving of my heartfelt thanks. :)

RNE, hoping there are many more like you!

Sad sight seeing this this morning.

Fortunately, I have flight this afternoon, so I won't be staring at zeros for long.

UA's systems seem to operate on Central time, which makes sense given that both Chicago and Houston are in Central. I think this is responsible for the somewhat-notorious Hawaii CPU bug where CPU sweeps for redeyes out of HI (and flights after 11pm Pacific) run 24 hours early.

Anyway, that suggests that the UA ball drops at 12 am Chicago time. Which is consistent with the reports in this thread.

For UA website function, I believe it is based on CST, HQ location of UA. The default "Departure Date" of "Check Flight Status" function changes at midnight CST.
