Consolidated - Looking for Business Award/Upgrade space to Europe -how to find?[2015]

Hey all,

So i have been searching for a one way ticket to Europe, originating in GSO. I don't really have a specific destination in mind, but I have been looking at AMS, LHR, CDG, and ZRH. I thought i saw a Global First Saver for 57,500 miles at one point connecting in ORD on a 747 but cannot find it anymore for the life of me? Is it possible that I saw this or Im i just seeing thing?

Unrelated question, if you had to pick between the following..what would your choose be for business class?

Lufthansa 7478
Swiss A330
United 747
Air Canada 777
LOT 787

Thanks all!

Nope, that's the saver price for one-way BusinessFirst. The saver price for Global First North America to/from Europe is 80K each way.

Austrian (OS) through VIE or Turkish (TK) through IST

Thanks for clearing that up! I can stop searching now trying to find it,

Ha so many different preferences! From reading trip reports, it seems like that Swiss wins out when it comes to food and privacy(if you are able to snag the single, throne seat). Lufthansa seems to get the hard seat, little privacy comment, I have not read up on LOT, Turkish or Austrian yet.

For a measly seven-hour flight it looks like Y will suffice -- especially since the side sections are only two abreast, rather than three. Half the reason my spouse and I fly in J internationally is so we won't have to rub elbows with strangers.

But if Swiss J is dreamy, I may reconsider, even at UA's exorbitant *A "saver" redemption rates. Trip reports seem to be mixed, with some going so far as to say the seat is uncomfortable. That'd be a deal-breaker.

The seat being uncomfortable was a common theme when i was read trip reports regarding Lufthansa Business.

IIRC, LX seats have some adjustable air cushion system, which should help attaining the desired seat firmness.

Among the products I've tried: LX >> AC > LH(748UD) >UA(747UD)

The latter three have similar pods, though AC has all aisle access with the herringbone layout. I just did LH's 748 and it is true lie-flat, if a bit cramped and not all-aisle access; I wouldn't call it uncomfortable. LX's seat is the firmest of the bunch, but it provides much more space; with their much better soft product, this an easy choice for me.

It's not dreamy. Not even close. Would not burn 140,000 miles for a simple RT from the east coast.

The LX seat is uncomfortable. It's hard and there's a noticeable seam. I much prefer the sUA seat for cushion comfort (though the single LX seats are much better for space and privacy).

TK is the best TATL product I've flown. OS gets equally high marks (though I haven't flown it yet). Both use Do&Co catering, which is as good as airplane food gets.

TK is fantastic. Excellent food - elaborate menus well executed with very fresh ingredients - and a good long seat.

I think I'm leaning in this direction myself. FYI, we lived in California until a few months ago, and flew TK J to IST. Had a nice trip, though I didn't sleep a wink because they kept the cabin stiflingly warm, despite several pleas to the FAs.

But now that we're in Boston, and since the A340 has those civilized two-seat groupings in Y, I think we'll make do with LH.

I've flown Swiss to ZRH Y numerous times in Y, mostly from BOS but most recently from EWR. I found everything quite satisfactory, especially with an aisle seat.

I've flown ZRH to LAX in Y on Swiss. No complaints at all.
