Embraer EMB-175 (E75) overhead storage
 

What is the overhead storage like on the E175. Is it big enough for standard carry on (United definition)? Particularly in F? Or do we need to gate check as the space is too small?

No it's big enough for a regular rollaboard. You don't need to gate check like on smaller RJ's. Just flew one of these DFW-IAH last week so it's fresh on the mind..

If you gate check on an E175 flight the bag will be checked to your final destination and you'll claim it at baggage claim.

Rode my first E175 from SAT-IAH and was surprised when I asked the f/a if my roller board would fit. He said "yes!". I was surprised it did! It has to go in the bins on the side with the two first class seats, and not the single seat side. I have the Tumi Alpha 2 (STYLE#: 22020D2).

That's one of the reasons that I love the E175s and despise the CRJ700s and CRJ900s.

Not always true. Just flew it yesterday and overhead became full and they green tagged and those pax were able to pick up on jet bridge. I think it varies by the routes / airport personnel / contracts

Use the priority boarding if you can and you'll be fine. I fly E190s all the time and the space is limited but not bad if everyone obeys the rules. The problem is the single side, it's only big enough to hold backpacks/purses/laptops/jackets but people feel the need to take up a roller bag space for their laptop on the full size side.

The F cabin has longer/wider bins on the right side. So rollers can go in wheels first. In economy the rollers still fit, just sideways, but on both sides of aircraft.

A Redoxx Skytrain will fit sideways on the left side in F. Tight, like the overheads on the upper deck of a 747.

Last week, the gate agent actually announced that we'd be in a larger regional jet and that rollaboards would fit, so no need to gate check.

Of course, I never did get to fly on that plane, as I was waitlisted after my own flight canceled. The E175 left with me at #1 on the waitlist. Still waiting to ride one of those. It's the only current aircraft type operated by UA that I haven't been on.

F you should be fine, although i'd try to board earlier than later. bags will fit as people say, but because in Y they go sideways, you can fit less of them so the space fills up faster IME.
