Never suggested a 6h domestic leg.
If you find a business class award seat on NZ from LHR to LAX - buy a lottery ticket immediately.

11:00 hours daytime nonstop on ET sacrificing a few degrees of recline, but with superior food/service
or 14 hours on EI+UA via LHR - with EI being in coach, and then craptastic 2-4-2 config and classic UA service to LAX....

pick your poison.

Wonder if I can clear Customs in DUB and save 2 hours in TBIT at LAX? I will take the nonstop and partial lie flat and save 4 hours and maybe clear customs in DUB than go to LHR. Just my preference.

Ethiopian Airlines award seats

I have an ANA account but can't see how to search awards. I can't even figure out how to fly from us to Africa😒

I' looking for three tickets in business class ord to sez March. 21 to March 29.

I called ua and tried many combinations just can't get either direction. i think there are only 2 sez to add in bc on March 29 but if i had that one leg fine.

i don't care if we route through a middle east country for stay at airoort. btw sometimes on line it is 70k for bc and sometimes 80, it seems fc shows up for 85 but fire that it would be nice to end up where there is a global first lounge.

Be careful if you are planning to use UA miles to SEZ using ET. I was told this is a limited seasonal route and ET cancelled their ADD-SEZ flight 4 weeks before our departure. The best that UA would do for us, 2 1Ks, is offer mile refund or take us as far as ADD or DXB. We ended up buying a separate ticket for DXB-SEZ.

FWIW, Lufthansa offers tickets to SEZ but puts yu on Condor for the FRA-SEZ segment. I'm not sure that can be booked with UA miles.

MP J Rewards on Ethiopian

Looking at an Africa trip, and using .bomb, lots of options on Ethiopian. NO availability in the J cabin though. Anyone have any luck scoring a MilagePlus reward seat in J on ET? If so, how did you do it?

I've seen ET J award inventory on their HKG-ICN sector. I realize that doesn't help you much in Africa, just some evidence that the inventory does show up on united.com.

Its a display error on united.com - one they dont seem to care to fix (along with ZH availability) . Plenty of seats available.

Check Aeroplan and/or ANA - and call in to book.

I just returned from a round trip to KJO using Ethiopian. I had to book 11 months prior on United as these awards seem to go fast. I was pretty disappointed with the food and wines in J though. The quality was about the same as economy class on other international airlines.

Serious? I heard decent reviews about their J.

me too, especially the Ethiopian food option - which I like. I m flying them HKG-ADD-GRU in July, I know the 787 seats wont be flat - but geez, it cant be worse than flying United J, and the wines cant be worse than UA.

I've had issues with phantom ET availability in the past, but not as the OP describes. I would definitely check Aeroplan.

The problem with ET awards is that they swap equipment frequently, and award tix are definitely given the least priority when downgrading to a smaller cabin.
