Checking luggage through on United

Hi all did a search, and did not find my answer. I am flying United domestically, then connecting to EVA air for international. With that said will United check my bag all the way through (leaving USA) as they are both Star Alliance. Also whos bag rules would be in place United, or EVA. Lastly if EVA is the one whose bag rules apply does that mean I avoid paying the $25 fee?

how long is your connection time?

if its <12 hours then it should be checked through 100% of the time if its part of the same itinerary

IME you wont pay any domestic baggage fees, again if its on the same itinerary

3 1/2 hour connection, and they are separate itineraries. On SkyTeam & OneWorld I have never had a problem showing my confirmation information from the other airline and having my checked bags go through. Is this the same at Star Alliance?

To check through, it shouldn't be a problem, as stated above. However, the baggage fees are another story...My guess is you're paying.

Separate itineraries doesn't matter. It's whether it's one or two tickets. If separate tickets, the theoretical policy is no. But, agents clearly do it a lot. Unfortunately, there is no way to settle this in advance. Thus, you must be prepared to have your bag checked to the UA destination, pick it up there and then check it in again.

If you are checking your bag on UA only, you will be assessed the $25 first bag fee. If you are checking it through, you are still theoretically liable for the $25 first bag fee, but UA almost never collects it. So, be prepared to pay but don't pull out your wallet just yet.

There is no such "policy." Currently, UA will absolutely interline bags, particularly where you are interlining to a *A carrier. In fact, the official policy as of 3/1/15 will be that UA will only interline to a *A carrier across separate tickets. United Eliminating Checked Bags on Separate Tickets Outside Star Alliance
