Booking two people on same reservation with different return dates

Hello Folks,

The Mrs and I are planning to fly to India next year and we were looking at dates where there is R availability (I know things we do for GPU usage). The Mrs has some extra days available and would like to stay back longer than I would. Would it be possible to book the two of us on the same reservation record with separate return dates? The only reason I am asking this is she wont have any status next year and I would like to ensure that she atleast gets an E+ seat and baggage allowance (because of my status).

Is this possible?

No way to do that. Itineraries have to be the exact same to be booked on a single reservation - not just a UA thing, with all carriers.

If there's R availability, then the E+ and baggage allowance issues are moot, no?

Book together on your wife's intended itinerary. Split. Change just your reservation.

Yes indeed. Important detail that I forgot there.

That makes sense, considering the fares are pretty much identical for either return date.

Thank you!

How did this work?

Realize this is a dead thread, but wanted to see if you had success with this. Going to italy in the fall and was hoping to book a reservation together for my brother and I, and then moving my return flight up (while still maintaining benefits of UA status).

The only thing that will be retained is E+ seating, and any changes to anything, even a schedule change on the same aircraft, and that cloud be gone.

I do have recent experience - in a gold, my wife silver, and fare locked a trip for the two of us. I had to change just my return date. So bought the ticket for the both of us, so I could get the fare, then made the change within 24 hours of purchase. Wife net back to silver benefits right away - baggage allowance went back to 1 and CPU notated as early as day of departure, and she kept her E+ seats, but it was showing a charge if she wanted to change.
