UA change/cancel policy (related to SJD Hurricane situation)

UA will waive change fee for flight up to Dec 20 due to the Hurricane.

http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/trav...lnotices.aspx?

However, our flight is on Dec 24 and our hotel is closed until April 2015.

I wonder under which condition we can also get waiver.

1. If UA change schedule-- by how many day/time?
2. If UA change route -- like direct flight change to connect flight
3. If UA change aircraft?

I think something will change as there won't be as many travelers going there
and I hope to change our flight without paying a fee.

Can't find this kind of information on their website, any help is appreciated!

We were planning to go there for our 30th anniversary!

Would try engaging UA via social media. They probably need to extend their waiver with so many hotels only opening Q2 next year or later.

1. About 2 hours.
3. Only if it changes to an express partner.

Why not go to a different property that is open?

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm not sure of the situation of the area. Even if I could find a hotel, what could
we do there?
If we can't change or refund the tickets, maybe we would travel to nearby area.

Why not call and ask? Considering it's a multi-month waiver, hard to imagine it being too strict.

Agree.

Note also that the waiver allows you to change to any UA destination without a change fee.

Thanks, I did call and asked, the CSR said I could pay the fee ($75x 3 of us? )and change and then send them an email to request credit.

I'm thinking there may be a chance they will cancel/ change flight, I have a direct flight and if they change it to connect flight and delay more than 2 hours; then can I cancel the flight?

After many unsuccessful hotel search, we called UA again and they told us they changed our itinerary from direct flight to a stop over at SFO. The original flight has been cancelled. They said our miles and fee will be refunded.

So far we didn't see the miles and fees credit back yet, but I wonder why didn't
UA notice us when the itinerary change. This would save us a lot of time.
