just out of curiosity, how do they even check that? when i leave a club, i just say thank you and walk out the door, it's not like they ask if i had guests every time, nor do they check for credentials either.

Moderator Note:

This thread is about a rule where a United Club member's guest must leave the club when the member leaves the club so please leave the comments towards fellow F/t'ers and club employees outside the club with the unwashed masses and focus on the issue

As for the general claim that rules are inherently good and that deputizing lounge agents as guest cops is a good thing, I can't help but think that most folks who are actually members of the club disagree.

Well, I wish it would be enforced this morning. SFO UC is absolutely packed. Only place to sit is at the small alcove by the check in desk.

We should probably go ahead and close the "United Club Meet Up Thread". After all, it only facilitates rule-breaking. (sarcasm off)

In my mind, rule enforcement goes both ways. If customers are to follow the rules verbatim, then UA needs to enforce the rules, not selectively. we all know that is not the case. And I mean not just the Club access.

It sounds double standard when it comes to club access, rules are rules, no if-and-but about it. But when it comes to other matters, rules are rules, except when we choose to not enforce it.

I haven't been to SEA's UC, but a rule like this would be easy to enforce at the UC at DCA. Very small, only one employee at the entrance/exit. Obviously ORD, IAH, et al are another story...

Serious question: do you genuinely think there was a glut of unaccompanied guests causing that problem?

And I have been denied entry to the DCA UC because it was full.

Serious glut? Of course not. But if there are even 2 they are taking seats not entitled to. Have seen probably 10-15 people walk in turn around and leave muttering that there is no place to sit. Being in this little alcove I can see quite a bit. Desk has turned lots away. Seen many use the CC one time passes and seen many come in as guests.

I had the same experience at the SEA club and I know specifically who you're referring to. Likewise for me, I was courteous at check-in and after 3 days of laborious meetings in SEA happy to have a bit of a respite with a co-worker. The agent's tone was a bit nasty, but I just wrote it off to a bad day. First time in many years of a RCC/UC membership I've been asked about my guest's travel plans. Of course, we left when my earlier flight began boarding and he just waited at his gate.

+1

Assuming that the exchange went as the OP described, then the Lounge Dragon was way out of line.

As an aside, is it a requirement that you be flying that day in order to access the UC as a paid member with a guest? I may be wrong, but I didn't think this was required, and if not, it might be a better idea to respectfully decline to answer the question about whether you are both on the same flight.

OK it seems like it's the you know what is getting a little deep here.

Let's see a show of hands. All of you who are jumping on the "great news" and "glad this is being enforced" band wagon and complaining about how all these free loading drunken guests are making the UC so over crowded and eating all the snacks... Have you ever taken a guest in who may be on a different flight plan than yours and have if your flight was the departing before theirs did you tell your guest that they must leave with you and escort them out? Scouts honor now!

I imagine there are a lot of you calling the pot black on this one.

Methinks the number of guests in the club after their host has departed number as few as those committing election fraud by voting illegally. Mostly a big non issue.

I haven't been in that exact situation, but I have definitely had instances where my husband and I were at the airport together but on different flights. I can tell you there is zero chance I would make him leave with me if my flight was first and he was a guest.

I've noticed a couple times in HNL that they had beer in a bucket at the bar for guests to take. However it was during a time when their licquor license was up. I was there on Saturday and yes the bar was open and serving, not self-serving.
