At the UC in ORD right now. The monitors are slowly being updated to show the enormity of this situation.

WGN is reporting that the fire is/was at the FAA's radar facility in Aurora. Both ORD and MDW are on ground stop.

Didn't ATC have a similar issue with a fire in a bathroom just a few months ago? I was in Chicago at the time but thankfully had arrived the day before and wasn't leaving for several days.

Yes, back in May: http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/05/13...ns-after-fire/

Quote related to MAY, 2014 INCIDENT
An electrical fire triggered by a faulty bathroom exhaust fan forced the evacuation of an air traffic control facility near Chicago, halting all flights at the city's two airports and shutting down one of the nation's busiest aviation crossroads.

Controllers were allowed to return to the facility in suburban Elgin about two hours later, but it was not immediately clear when flights would resume.
As for today's incident, glad I am sticking close to home. Good luck to everyone affected.

Hope everyone is okay over there. Was slated to connect in Chicago this morning but was protected on another route even before I even got to the airport.

First time I've had such luck.
