Winter (Q1 2015) schedule cuts coming
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-0...akes-fall.html
Domestic airports that will see the biggest United cuts in the first quarter include Washington’s Dulles International Airport, where seats will fall by 14 percent, and Denver and Los Angeles international airports, each down by 7 percent. Seats to Tokyo Narita International Airport will fall by 17 percent, McKenzie estimated.

This really is old news. In July this was all announced. The conference call for the 2nd qtr. has all the details. The only reason this poped up as news today is the aviation conference going on today in Chicago and the United CFO gave a presentation on the topic.

The NRT figure (17%) is misleading since UA is shifting one of the SFO-NRT flights to HND.

When will AA overtake IAD? With -14% reduction, we need another airlines to step-up.

This is only half of the story, as the July schedule increase is not yet loaded. UA has been saying its capacity distribution will be much more seasonal going forward, so I don't see anything new here.

has anyone else noticed that DL and AA have been expanding their route network, both domestically and internationally, but COdbaUA has been shrinking, particularly on the domestic front? Very telling

# 8 You are not correct. THE SUMMER WILL HAVE AN Increase from last year.
More mainline aircraft will be available for several reason. As announced in the conference call from management-more aircraft are being pulled for maintenance during the winer and many aircraft will be finished from many projects (new seats,wi fi ext) then were 2014.
Also as management indicated they are in the market for used aircraft of the 737 type. This will be happen to be available in Summer 2015

(Not. DL is doing exactly what UA us doing, and seasonally cutting this flight. Will restart in March.)
What is the problem with cutting flights / seats to places seasonally when nobody wants to fly there?
Seems like sound business by all airlines.

UA fans, don't get too smug...UA's DEN-SLC went from an A319 to an RJ. I don't know if the frequency changed.
Is there an easy way to compare route networks?

Do you think they're going to bring back the 733s and 735s they dumped in Russia?

They can cut all they want, I'm sure China Southern and the various foreign carriers will continue to send A380s to make up the slack.
