Most business customers from DCA/IAD to New York prefer to fly into LGA since it's a much faster cab ride into the city. Maybe if UA beefed up IAD-LGA they could pick up some customers. Those of us who live near Dulles don't really use Amtrak since it's a long ride down to Union Station to catch a train. So, while Acela has nearly killed off the DCA-LGA hourly shuttles, it's not a great option for everyone.

I've flown IAD-JFK a bunch of times, but usually to then drive further out on Long Island. Fares on IAD-JFK were usually a few hundred bucks cheaper than to LGA, so it got some tourist business connecting in from elsewhere at IAD.

EWR really isn't an option for a lot of people. Cab fares through the tunnels are exorbitant, and taking the train from EWR to Penn Station and then cabbing/subway from there to wherever makes for a really long day.

I was definitely on a CO plane IAH-JFK some years back. Connected to the misery known as Aerolineas Argentina. Let's remember that CO did serve JFK.

Good example of why Wikipedia is not acceptable source in academic circles.

It shouldn't be a completely acceptable source in media or business circles either, but still it is relied upon by the news media; and it is relied upon even by mega-millionaires and billionaires who enter into business partnerships on the basis of it providing a supposedly credible picture. I'm talking about things like the soap-opera-like acquisition of the luxury accommodation Aman hotels/resort group -- it wouldn't have happened without Wikipedia. ;)

That said, it's a great source for engaging in contextual analysis.

I flew CLE-JFK on CO in 2007. Not sure when that ended.

CO did not serve JFK at the time of the merger.

The point is CO did in fact serve JFK weather you want to believe it or not. From July 4th 2007:

IAH-JFK was cut around 2008, IIRC - mainly due to the financial crisis.

It's neither here nor there that legacy CAL didn't serve JFK at the time of the merger, if you want to nitpick, legacy UAL didn't serve FLL... both had gaps in their respective networks.

This isn't a big loss, IMO.

Recent (and now deleted) posts have taken a trend toward criticizing each other -- there is little useful purpose to that and these are getting very closer to violating the ToS of FT.

Let's get back to our discussion about UA discontinuing service between IAD-JFK. Further posts about other posters will be subject to deletion.

NYC is the financial capital of the United States, and home to the United Nations. WAS is the political capital of the United States. Makes sense from that perspective alone.
Sure, right, because JFK-IAD is the most convenient way to get to the Capital?

LGA-IAD, LGA-DCA, NYP-WAS. All better. Their service at JFK was a joke.

I think it really depends on where you live and work.

The biggest loss is those in the DC area trying to connect through JFK to the multitude of Star carriers flying out of JFK who do not fly out of IAD.

This was one of the original routes UA flew when it started the IAD hub in1986. Also noted service to both FLL and MIA no longer available from IAD even seasonal. I guess UA wants people flying to Europe from south Florida to connect at EWR.

I did SFO-JFK-IAD-FRA a couple of times, easier to upgrade than SFO-FRA and 7166 PQM, quite possibly the best you can do on a 2-stop on that route.

IAD-JFK was part of my favorite MR ever: LHR-IAD-ORD-MIA-IAD-JFK-SFO-LAX on a $1000 B fare in 2009. They soon tightened up the routing rules...

Indeed.

How much service does JetBlue have on the IAD-JFK route?
