Cost/miles to upgrade to Bus from W vs T
Hi there.
Anyone know the cost in both $$$ and miles to upgrade from E+ to BusFirst IAD to LHR in T vs W?
Is there any appreciable difference?
Basically, I can pay for this ticket in GBP £2125 in T OR $3808 in W.
£2125 = $3600 per the exchange rate I need to use.
That said, the plan is to possibly upgrade from E+ to businessfirst on the return. So, if it's going to be $500 to upgrade from T vs $50 from W, I am better off with the W ticket, even though it's more expensive on its face.

It's 20K miles plus $550 for either ticket. That being said, unless "R" classs is available AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, a "T" fare may not clear as easily or quickly as a "W" fare, if at all. So, in any case, buy the "T" fare. You will have to pay the miles and upgrade charge now, but you will get it back if you are not upgraded. A "W" fare is more useful if you have GPUs, but even then, you have to play the lottery if "R" seats are not available.

United has this thing called a website. It has an "Award Chart" which tells you, by route and fare class, the cost to upgrade. Check it out sometime. Award Chart.

The little thing called the website can also lead us to FT, where helpful members can offer guidance with a smile!

+1 Yes it's an easily answered question, but for newbies the upgrade award chart can be confusing, and the rules change frequently. And there is legitimately a bit of strategy here...a W is more likely to clear than a T is the total costs are similar.

And to be fair, I'd never seen that web page before, so the link was helpful to me. And I stopped being a new flyer a long time ago.
