1986 Mileage Plus Program Guide

Cleaning out my Dad's desk, I ran across a June 1986 United Airlines Mileage Plus Program Guide. I don't know if anyone would like it, but thought this would be the place to ask. This is free and my choice of who gets it is final. I will lean those to a) I know b) be around the longest, or c) have a good story as to why they would like it.

Fifty two pages of benefits that are history.

Why not scan it and post it for all to see.

Because I am lazy. I am offering something for free rather than the landfill.

If only you had the matching Onepass Guide you would have a priceless collection.

Any way you could scan and post for the rest of us to see before you give it away?

Wouldn't it be great if someone could actually analyze and plot the "rise and fall" of benefits? A graphical tribute to the over-entitled.

Then please give it to someone willing to scan and post it.

I have the Mileage Plus award chart from October 1983. Interesting that the mileage credited for LAX/JFK was 2451 as opposed to 2475 given today.

Ok. So whoever gets it for free should agree to scan it in for all to see. :)

+1. Would love to see someone scan it and see what it looks like

I vote XYZZY to scan it!

Wonder if this was before or after the big devaluation of 1986. That one incited lawsuits and some temporary backpedaling by United. Hawaii First Class for 2 went from 75k to 90k. No capacity controls though. This is an instructive read:

That management team was blown out about a year after, and the change ultimately went through, along with capacity controls.

There's a need to find the "Million Miles and More Program" info we would get in the mail in January every year from back in the day. In the Million Mile Flyer lawsuit, all the Mileage Plus program guides from the 1980s forward are available on Pacer. What isn't are the yearly info on the MMF program UA started.

Does anyone have that to scan?

And the MM program will be devalued yet again when UA switches to the miles awarded per dollar spent on tickets scheme come March 1, 2015. For Premier Golds, aka UA MM, they will be awarded 8 miles per $1 spent on a ticket. Originally, MM received a 100 percent RDM bonus for every mile traveled, but the merger reduced this to a 50 percent bonus which currently results in 1.5 miles per miles flown.

The OnePass guide is quite a bit smaller. It only has one elite level, at 25k miles, compared to four elite levels in Mileage Plus, with a top level at 75k miles. Guess Continental and Eastern combined were still not in the same league as United.
