using United priority security line when flying ANA

I am a United Silver member and will be departing from O'Hare on NH1011 tomorrow. Am I able to use the United premier access security line when flying on ANA?

Technically, no, but in practice, no one cares, just wave your Silver card and they will let you through as Silvers have access to priority security when flying UA.

I forgot to mention that I am also in business class if that makes any difference

maxinkuckee04 Apr 2, 2014 6:19 pm

your business class definitely. With you being Premier Silver, you are also Star Silver and that gives you access to Premier Access. You also get lounge access with your business class ticket.

Can you point me to that supposed technical rule? :)

Premier Access is a UA thing, not an ANA thing. Star Silver does not get priority security access.

The big problem is not being able to use Pre on NH.

Premier Access is available to the following customers:

MileagePlus Premier® members
United First®, United Global FirstSM, United Business® and United BusinessFirst®
Copa Airlines Clase Ejecutiva customers
Star AllianceTM Gold and Silver members
MileagePlus Club and Presidential Plus credit cardmembers

The fact that he is travelling ANA and checking in in Terminal 1 in ORD will allow him Premier Access since the traveller is a premier silver/star silver.

Premier Access is a United service. It is an ancillary service offered as part of a United flight. OP is not flying on United. There is no such thing as Premier Access on an ANA flight.

None of this has to do with Star Silver status, which is not the same as UA Silver status.

OP still gets to use the Premier security line, though, because you can use it even when not flying UA. Indeed, you can flash pretty much any shiny object and get in.

Correct. Published *S benefits consist of priority reservations waitlist and priority airport standby. That's it. status-benefits/gold-silver

Sorry, I assumed OP was flying Y because I thought all C passengers get priority everything.

Even if OP was flying Y, what rule would keep him/her from using the Premier line at security.

Star Alliance Silver does not include priority security. UA extends Premier Access, which includes priority security, to all *S. However, NH does not. Thus, you would have to be *G in order to use the priority security lane if flying NH, as they would have a different way of notating that it is acceptable for one to use the priority security lane.

However, in practice, this isn't enforced and, as someone above wrote, any shiny object such as the Asiana Club Silver Card will get you in.

As others have said, I can just show my card, but I don't even think being *G would help in this case since I am not on UA. *G would only help if you earned it from another program, but are flying on United.

A key line was missing from the premier access page linked and copied above, so here it is.

"Premier Access benefits

We continually strive to make your travels more convenient when flying on United, Copa Airlines and Copa Airlines Colombia. "

Again, it's not just in practice.

What you said above, as to whether someone who is not flying UA can use the UA Premier line, was: "Technically, no". Can you explain where the rule is that says that?

OP is a UA Silver. UA Silvers get to use the UA Silver line. So far as I know, there is no rule that says they need to be flying UA -- or flying at all (assuming they have a gate pass).

*G would get you priority security on ANA, which may or may not be something that ANA has contracted for at ORD.

Most of this thread is moot. OP is flying Business, so gets priority security. Doesn't matter what their UA or * status is or is not.
