So what's the consensus on wifi on IAD-NRT? Worth trying? Will it be working only over continental US?

I've used it TPAC a number of times on 747s, and once on a sUA 777. No complaints! Worked fine.

Can work along the entire flight path, except over the poles (over 70 degrees or so north).

The CONUS only limitation is for the system on the 737s, PS, and 70 seat RJs.

Flew IAD-DXB and back, and WiFi was decent except on one of the flights after powering down the laptop and reconnecting later, system would not recognize the account, and I had to purchase the access again. Applied for a refund on the duplicate purchase and received it promptly.

On the SFO-IAD legs, however, WiFi was piss poor. Moreover, second time I got into a connect lock where the browser access was denied, but email was working. The only way I could overcome that was by running Tor. That allowed me to get around whatever block the system put me in.

Outstanding: another opportunity to make an anti-CO comment in a thread that has nothing to do with it. Or, are you suggesting that the CO IT team has anything to do with the design of the Panasonic in-flight WiFi system, or its installation and operation?

I posted in another thread that I have been using the wifi on the Hawaii Configured 777 flights between GUM and HNL several times and it has been very reliable. It was $16.99 for the entire flight.

I've used it four times in the past month and it has worked quite well. To me it's worth the $16.99 - just have realistic expectations for bandwidth...

Don't think so - check out this page for fleet updates: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con...i/default.aspx

Routes don't get wifi/internet -- specific aircraft do (and those can rotate about).

Only 1 of 12 787's have internet access

Did anyone catch Walt Mossberg's comments about in-flight WiFi in his interview with United's Thomas O'Toole and Gogo's COO Ash ElDifrawi at Code/Mobile?
