Current W fare is $1,338 and R space is available (planning to use a GPU).

Is this price considered a "good deal" for that routing?
yes

My favorites are the Europe-South America fares. Most cities that are served by UA will work. For example, BRU-GIG is showing on ITA as $922 for May 6-16. Be warned that fares allow a stopover, but the GPU doesn't.

SFO-HKG I'm seeing the W for as low as $1138 RT in June. Cheapest I've ever seen.

My in-laws got a K for $730 on that route in June. At that price, they're more than happy to sit in Y.

The W just dropped about $350. It was over $1400 even when the K could be had for $600-800.

Since R space seems to be dead, no point in this thread right now

GPU for Jan-Mar next year

I could not use my GPU for two of my international travel this year, did not get upgraded. I am hoping UA will extend GPU for extra two months as in the past. I am having hard time to find upgradable spaces in Jan-Mar 2016. Can anyone help me to find some place to go for vacation for 7 to 14 days in early next year with R spaces?

Where do you want to go on vacation JAN-MAR 2016?

Does 1/22-2/1 SFO-PEK RT qualify for your definition of vacation? R are available for both directions!

I think you are missing the point. Op wants to have open R space drive location

To this end NYC-bCN or MAD has R space open from T-7 on typically

Upgraded a couple days in advance on IAD-FRA last week. So there was at least one flight with R availability.

If you're GS, you cleared into PN, not R. PN frequently opens without R ever appearing.

But I will add that the reports of R demise are severely exaggerated. TPAC upgrades are particularly viable if you have any flexibility.
