united.com No Longer Allowing Award Holds If Short Miles

United.com has been great in allowing award holds if you are short on miles and book travel online.

This evening, I noticed that the option is no longer available--not even FareLock, just the "back" button.

I hope this is temporary, but I fear it is not.

Another very customer unfriendly move.

I didn't know there was another method to hold a reservation besides FareLock.

I would hold the reservation and then transfer in Ultimate Rewards points. It probably won't matter much because what is the chance you lose the reservation during the time it takes to transfer. . .but that would be very frustrating if it did happen.

PayPal is still there, but you do not even have the option of getting past the first screen if you don't have adequate miles (the old "purchase" or "hold" buttons).
