INTL Refund penalty $750?

INTL Refund penalty $750?

Didn't have the easiest-to-understand phone rep so wanted to see if anyone has had experience before I call back:

I have an INTL ticket on hold ORD-CDG ...before I spend $5k I want to be sure that most of it can be refunded... the detail in the fare code doesn't say ...so does $750 sound right?

Pretty sure international cancellation penalty is $300, not $750.

That's new to me, but the fare rules do indeed say:

CANCELLATIONS

BEFORE DEPARTURE
CHARGE USD 750.00.
WAIVED FOR SCHEDULE CHANGE.

ETA: That also applies to CHANGES, ANY TIME.

Brutal.

Using Expertflyer, I see one fare with code AOAX28V — looks like it's actually designated AOAX28V/UAF.

Yes, the fare rules include a $750 fee to change, cancel, or refund.

I have never seen such a steep penalty for a UAL intl ticket ... maybe it has to do with that particular route (just guessing)

I had to cancel an int'l ticket a month ago and it was $300. I haven't seen $750 before and hopefully this isn't a new change...

I often buy A fares. Yes, for a heavily discounted First Class ticket, the cancellation fee often is $750.

Most carriers offer a variety of First and Business Class ticket types including restricted tickets. It seems that change fees of $500-$750 are the norm for F tickets, many times the heavily discounted F tickets are non-refundable and have a high change fee while the mid-range tickets are refundable but still have a penalty ($300-500). On most carriers only the full-fare tickets can be changed & refunded without fee.

You should always read the fare rules before purchasing any tickets as they vary materially from carrier to carrier, route to route, and fare to fare.

Keep in mind, Trans-Atlantic pricing and fare rules are usually aligned within each alliance. So, if you look, UA, LH, and LX have the same fares with the same fare rules. The $750 change fee for low-end Star Alliance F seems to be in-line with One-World which is also $750 for BA or AA low-end F fares (e.x. P2X9AR). Sky Team (AF) is only $450 for their low-end F (FXP68US).

my last DL international business ticket, booked in Z class, had a $450 change/cancel fee and was non-refundable.

$750 does seem pretty steep. i don't think i'd be booking that if my plans weren't concrete, but OP's MMV.
