Missed Connection Questions
 

My SIL is flying from ALB to HNL via IAD and LAX and had to gate check her bag (Check counter said it was ok, gate agent? said it had to be checked) (flying on an E135). At IAD it took a while to get the carry on out and with the travel time to the connecting gate by the time she got there it was closed (plane hadn't left yet). She has been rebooked and will have to spend the night in LAX for which she was given a discount coupon.

The connection time in IAD was about an hour and due to various ailments moves a bit slower than I would.

Was the rebooking and discount voucher all she should have expected from UA?
