I always love the"Use your miles to upgrade now!" email a few days before CPU opens.

Oh yeah, I DO get that one too! I've tried three times in January to UG 'U' fares on 752 and 739 metal using GPU's to no avail.

The latest is a 752 DEN-IAH at 10am on a Sunday morning. 12 F available at booking, R0 and its booked full now with GPU failure, U fare.

I just took the bump from platinum to 1k.

Oh, my wife who was plat thanks to matching my status got and took it too.

If I was a REAL 1k ght now I would be royally pissed.

Got a 4 RPU offer, no PQM. This year I had two paid trips (leftovers from last year), one paid C on hold (my TA booked as a placeholder but I'm thinking of switching to AA/CX because they are much cheaper), and four F/C award bookings, so I'm not sure how they guessed I'm leaving

Why are they working overtime to devalue 1K and give Golds/Silvers something we have to now spend atleast $7.5K/$10K to get RPUs?

Because this Gold spends way more than 10K every year. Try 25K for a Gold. This Gold should at least be Platinum...

If we are going to start speculating about the targeting criteria, I will point out that I basically earned plat by flying on first and business class tickets on US last year. And the challenge only applies to UA and Copa metal PQM.

So I suspect getting US flyers who deposit their US flight to mileage plus to switch to UA metal may be part of the targeting matrix.

I am a 1K and just received the following with no qualification required... I guess UAL is in the giving mood today... is slightly annoying however, that they are offering 1K bumps to people who haven't put in their 100k miles - usually they keep 1k out of the promo's...:
