confirmed with BP but still waitlisted
This has happened to me twice in the last month.
Both involved requesting a same-day change to a nonstop flight (so 2 segments to 1 segment). Both times I was given a BP on my desired flight, but it shows up in the system (mobile and desktop and to the phone agents) as "waitlisted". Even after I reached my destination, the UA phone rep still sees it as waitlisted.
The first flight did post on schedule (both PQMs and PQDs).
Does anyone know what this means?

This has happened frequently to me... including most memorably the time when an agent at MSP told me to "run with me" from the gate I was at 1/2 way down the concourse, pushed me through an open door (with no BP) and told me to "take any open seat" to protect my connection (still one of the most amazing customer service experiences I've had with UA)
It's also happened with more routine changes.
I assume it has to do with the itinerary not being resynced to the ticket or (or the ticket not being fully exchanged/reissued) such that the part of the system that displays itineraries isn't aware that the other part of the system is holding confirmed space for you.
There seem to be no ill effects other than not knowing exactly what seat you have from the app... everything posts correctly, IME.

i have had it happen a couple times in the same manner as described by the OP. my miles and PQM always post properly even though it shows waitlisted. i wonder if that is part of the reason that SHARES normally opens up every fare bucket right before departure if there are open seats to take care of these standbys? and every once in awhile it just doesnt happen properly so the reservation system shows waitlisted even though you are on the airport ops manifest?
