Shortest United Flight (now and then)

Hi all,

Am considering flying from JST-AOO. United is selling a ticket for $194 AI OW. Trip is 27 miles... Anyone else see any shorter trips?

Regards,

mbwmbw

You found it.

Its been discussed before, JST-AOO was the consensus then and holds true now.

Thank you. Would anyone be interested in trying this flight out with me?

I almost would have done that back in January when we were supposed to land at LGA from DEN and then we touched down in EWR. Big muck up where half the plane got unloaded thinking this was just going to be our final given the weather when in fact before door opening we should have been told that the plane (and our bags) were going on to LGA. I was one of the first people off….ended up realizing that and luckily my best friend was landing at LGA around the same time my bags were, sent her a photo of my tag and description of my bag and she was able to get it for me. :)

Not as short as these but I do the MRY-SFO-MRY which is 77 miles and about a 28 min flight.

Nah, it I was to do that, I would do the shortest flight of any airline from PPW - WRY....a whole 1.7 miles!

If UAX operated this they'd block it for 45 minutes.

...and it would still arrive on time only about 30% of the time due to ATC/weather.

Why would UA operate such a short flight? Driving would be so much more faster..

bohlia123 May 28, 2014 2:18 pm

Driving probably takes longer

I just mapped it - about an hour drive, so as long as you don't need to rent a car and have $200 to spare in each direction, not a bad option. I wonder is AOO has pre-check yet.

On a serious note, though, I can't imagine this route makes any commercial sense for UA or Silver Airways. Could be linked to a government subsidy, or possibly a large company in the area with enough demand to support the route.

I had the pleasure of OAK-SFO once. We diverted to OAK, waited an hour to get fuel, then flew the 11 miles to SFO.

I was just thinking about that as a interesting flight. Its always nice when you can see your destination from your origin (on a clear day) :D
