UA to involuntarily furlough 700 flight attendants

http://savvystews.com/2014/01/15/bre...ht-attendants/

Wonder how many tenths of a percent of $2 billion this adds up to. Good to see all these changes I'll like are working and leading to a better, more profitable United!

Wasn't there a thread about this back in November or December, and a few folks poo-poo'ed it as being SOP?

This is so sad, and it's bewildering to me as an outsider that it's being done before hashing out the single FA contract. I hope these FAs will be called back as the new sUA 739s come online.

Those were voluntary furloughs I believe.

This, unfortunately, brings Jeffy ever closer to shifting the majority of FA jobs to the sCO side. This gives him a better chance of pushing through the CO work rules etc. in a unified contract.

IIRC, several posters indicated there were going to be involuntary ones. Turns out they were right.

Think you hit the nail squarely on the head.

No need for a unified contract if you totally eliminate one side.

a lot of my coworkers wanted to go work the sCO side rather than be furloughed, however, the Union would not allow them to do so.

The new sUA 739 deliveries pale in comparison to the sUA 752 retirements. It's really sad.

I think that is Mr. Smisek's definition of a unified contract. Mr. Tilton must be looking better everyday to the rank and file of sUA.

Think this gives more credence to the old adage "better the devil you know than the devil you don't".
