Here's a trip report from a US Airways marketed, Colgan Air operated ROC-BUF from August 2010: http://us.airliners.net/aviation-for...d.main/174050/

These tiny little point-to-point routes ceased operation in Oct 2010, http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/us-ai...g-oct-1-a.html

I figured that the tale of woe had to be from some years ago. I wonder if Mohawk flew ROC-BUF...

ETA...Maybe so!!

To PMNW phone agents, Rochester tended to mean the one in Minnesota so I always was careful to clarify that my tickets were to the right place.

If I'm tired or not completely awake when boarding, I always verify the destination with the FAs in front. Sometimes they seem to like to joke around about it a bit, but this rarely really scares me.

I've also heard pilots announce the wrong destination, including that we would be flying to our current location when the aircraft apparently does a quick turn.

Come on, this is FT. Do you get miles for both flights, plus compensation??

How about the OP? He should have had an open seat next to him/her. What compensation should they expect for that not happening? :D

Bet you UA comps the reroute. But, it shouldn't. Despite the FT view that individuals bear no responsibility for their own conduct, there's a reason for departure boards, monitors, gate announcements and the like.

And gate readers which should beep to indicate that you are boarding the wrong plane. Happened to me at the third-word F gates a few weeks ago.

Insert proper smilie(s) here.

Unfathomably silly victim blaming. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I think the airline bears responsibility to get you where your ticket says want to go...if thy cant catch an incorrectly boarded passenger....tough.

Problem is places like IAD where 1 gate will serve several flights, although you get scanned at different areas , its the same pathway to say 3 different flights. Or even with some jetways where turn right for 1 flight, left for another. So you can still get scanned at the proper place but make a wrong turn and good-bye.

At least @ IAD they do most times have several people at each cutoff asking either where are you flying to or telling you this plane is going to XYZ is that your destination. And other times no one is down there at all

And that's what happens and what they usually do at ORD too.

I took me EIGHT hours to get home. UA did accomodate me and I had to fly to Buffalo and then to ORD.

So I guess it does happen from time to time.

So did you get the extra mileage and segment credit? :D

One time way before the merger, I was in Jackson Hole airport. There were 3 planes parked side by side boarding at the same time, 1 Delta, 1 United and 1Continental. As I was a greater, a woman came up the stair with her 2 kids I asked to see the boarding passes and she presented 3 boarding passes for the continental flight. I told her that she got on the wrong plane as the continental plane is right next door. They rush off the staircase and the continental plane began to push. Poor lady. Don't know what happened to her after that.

I've seen it happen on Southwest, where they just take the paper BPs rather than scanning them. Almost lost a student to the wrong flight once when there were two planes leaving OAK for SLC at about the same time. Couldn't find her, called her and she said she had already boarded!

Or use blended destinations, like San Juan, Costa Rica when we were flying to SJO. And yes, sCO flies to both SJU and SJO ex IAH  As well as SJC ;)
