I would rather change my plans and use unused value of ticket for a later flight with another destination. Just not sure that is possible.

Anyone been successful at this?

AFAIK, it should work if the flt is cancelled. If you are entitled to a refund (due to a cancellation), it might be better to go for that, as I'm not clear that the change fee waiver would be valid if you waited to rebook the ticket at a future time.

Is this right or is it the typical UA agent that doesn't know there job?

That is not correct, since the weather waiver is valid for travel from today through Jan. 5th, and applies to any flights (in the affected areas) during that period, even if they are not cancelled.

Flight Changes:

When rescheduled travel commences by January 9, 2014 change fees and fare differences will be waived.
For all other dates and ticket uses, the change fee will be waived, but a difference in fare may apply.

My flight out of IAD last night was delayed by about three hours. Looks like I started my Asia trip just in time.

I am currently booked on an afternoon flight to JFK on Sunday the 5th. If I wanted to change the flight to the early morning flight, with this travel waiver would it be free to do so? When I try to change it on United.com, it quotes the fare difference. I don't want to miss the 49ers game so I rather change it to the early flight.

Yes, it would be free.

You probably need to call in to get this changed under the travel waiver.

Yes, I've had the return portion of a RT ticket refunded due to a cancelation. I just filled out the refund request form on-line and noted in the comments section which part of the ticket was canceled and got a refund about a week later.

They didn't provide any background on how they calculated the refund but it seemed like the right amount to me (and was more than the alternative flight I booked myself on). If you are the sort who wants to know all the details you may want to call.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but just to confirm, if you have already been CPUed to F and you change your flight, you won't get put back into F regardless of F (or R) inventory. Is that correct? Will a 1k phone rep typically Y-up if you ask? or is that more of an airport rep thing (at best)?

A good and accommodating agent can put you directly into R. You could mention doing an "even exchange."

Was on UA 1118 SFO-IAD tonight, returning Jan 11. It was for pleasure so called and cancelled the outbound and return: they gave me a credit for it for one year out, no sweat. My phone rep was very good, best I've had in a while. Friendly, knowledgeable, easy to work with.

Hi all,
Flying tomorrow 745 AM ROC-ORD and connecting to 10:05 AM ORD-IAH
What do you guys think? Will I be fine?
I cleared upgrades on both flights, so I'd really like not to be delayed or mis connect in ORD

The flight I wanted was full so it caught me off guard and I forgot to ask about Y. The flight they put me in had R space and she said something about putting me in for upgrade so I thought that was what was happening. But now that I look, I'm not in R.

Changing Award Ticket Under Weather Waiver

I am on a Business Saver ticket for 1/6 with a lap infant. LAX-ORD (UA Metal) - FRA (LH Metal)

The travel waiver has been extended to cover my travel date. So I called in and asked to be switched to LAX-FRA (LH Metal) to avoid ORD. The rep (USA based), said that they can only switch the flight if Lufthansa opens up a Business award seat. I tried to rebut by saying there are business revenue seats open and that the waiver says all change fees and fare differences would be waived. She said award seats can only be switched to other award seats and that only if a flight gets delayed or cancelled can they switch me over to a revenue seat.

Can anyone confirm this as being correct, or is this something that the hang up and call again method might be able to solve?

TIA.
