No music on UA AVOD
 

I was on an EWR-HKG flight yesterday, and tried to brig up music onAVOD. Everything was "Album not available". FA told me all music has been turned off until 2014 because of a licensing dispute (as inlink below I assume). Is this right? Amazing if true.

Same thing on MAN-IAD this week as well...

Had this on UA129 (IAH-GIG) and UA128 (GIG-IAH) this week. Both were sCO 777s. The "international service manager" on board both flights had no idea what was going on with it.

Same thing happened to me on both ORD-MUC and MUC-EWR this past week. Think I can write in a complaint and get some miles? :D

No, but they will offer to give you free copies of music they illegally copied. Oooops, but I guess that is what started this mess. :p

Same on sUA aircraft, except that there is no error message - AVOD music simply doesn't show up in the menu. Only looping tracks do. I experienced this first hand in GlobalFirst on NRT/SEA on a sUA 777 this week. Sad.

I guess the performing artists have to step up and contribute to the $2b in savings. Every little bit counts...

Good lord, don't you over-entitled folks have iPods and IPads? Do you seriously expect Jeff to pay to entertain you??? He has to run a business once he figures out which one he wants to be in. Don't you know he can get a good chunk of that $2b if he rips out international AVOD? Think of ecological impact from the fuel savings!

These devices evolve at such a fast rate these days, that they will need to replace the avod every 2-3 years just to keep up. They should put in some streaming servers and wifi though.

WX does this and it works well. You even save on fuel from eliminating weight! Problem is, they'd have to put power in E.

I've been on a handful of 747s, 767s, and 787s in the past two weeks and none of them have had any music options on AVOD. This has been going for two months now... anyone have an idea when (if) it will return?

The ISM/Purser should make an announcement at the beginning of the flight that the audio selections will be unavailable. All my flights to/from NRT since December have not had audio and the ISM/Purser never announced it. Maybe they're also out of the loop?

I think they have to cut a deal on licensing terms . . . and hard to know when or if that will happen.
