Buy-on-Board Coming for Select South America Destinations / pmUA FA vol. Furloughs

Supposedly, cuts in salary were imposed at United headquarters today. Folks were notified by e-mail. No joke, but they're even to bring their own cutlery and napkins as they were removed from the cafeteria. Some of the cuts were in the several thousands of dollars. They were told it was because of the pilots' contract. Also pretzels are being removed from economy on all international flights in economy, and central and south american flights, with the exception of brazil and argentina, are moving to buy on board. Up to 2000 subsidiary united flight attendants are being warned of furloughs. Why was this stuff left out of investor day? How is it that Delta can make money, serve free snacks, and have industry-leading pay for pilots whereas united is cutting its way to profitability? What is the board of directors waiting on to can $misek & Co.? Do they not care about the direction this company is going in?

The Board of Directors collectively lost their voice.

At some point, we will hear "JEFF MUST GO".

We will definitely need more confirmation than this. "Jeffmoneyman" was specifically created to make this post which could be a strategy so to not get caught up in lies. So, Jeffmoneyman, please tell your source, or maybe you are an employee (my opinion), to give us a screenshot or something along those lines before we discuss these rumors!

Believe it or not if you want. Your choice. If you re-read the post, you should be smart enough to see that there's no love lost for this management. Take a flight to South America soon and see if you have to swipe your card or sit in the back to see if you get to munch on a cheap bag of pretzels before your meal. Codbaua distorted the truth on investor day. They said no furloughs, but didn't mention any plans to cut salaries (of lower level peeps working there--not the big wigs). Ask the ua insider or any flight attendant on here if the united side is being asked to take almost 2000 furloughs. Judge for yourself.

Will there be additional cuts if the flight attendants ever get a contract? Strange way to run an airline.

Are you referring to the regional partners? I don't think they're technically subsidiaries as UA doesn't have an ownership interest in them. If they're cutting that many flight attendants from regionals surely the next announcement will be regional route cuts? Have any info on those? Seems like a strange time to cut routes when the void created by US leaving Star Alliance needs to be filled.

Subsidiary United FAs are the FAs who are currently working under the sUA work rules, pay contract etc. They work on united metal only and 739ERs in the 8xx tail # range. Subsidiary Continental FAs are the FAs who are currently working under the sCO work rules, pay contract etc. We work on Continental metal and 739/739ERs in the 401 - 478 tail # range. And yes I've heard of sUA FAs getting furloughed and the sCO side is hiring for inflight.

Is that just a symptom of fleet utilization, or is the sCO contract better for UA?

If one were to guess, probably the latter. Although the lawyerly smart thing would be to do the latter under the pretext of the former.

If true, how does UA plan to compete with BOB on long-haul international flights?
