Currency issue at United.com
Priced out a ticket at 1158 usd at United.com
I have a Canada billing address so I need to select Canada as my country Canadian quote is about $100+ the actual exchange rate Any ideas on how to book this? Wont let me hold ticket for later cash payment, nor will it let me use Paypal |
Good luck.
UA put $20,000 on my credit card this week as their website goofed, and multi charged, and they agreed, and processed the credit fast. Correct amount to be charged was $US1575. They credited back the $18,425 an it showed on my Amex 3 days later. Amex waived all their foreign use fees. All good to this point. HOWEVER the $A had gained a tad over those 3 days and my credit was $300 different to what I was charged. So I am in the hole $300 due to their error. Amex advised me to contact UA. 'Their error'. UA will say I am sure we credited back the overcharge in exact $US sum we over charged. Any clue who to approach to get the $A300 I am out of pocket due to THEIR goof? Prefer email address as on phone to Mumbai will take all afternoon and I'll get transferred to several folks I am sure. |
Could there be a point of sale restriction on the lower fare? Although it would just be speculation without having details like city pair and dates or fare basis

Most of the tickets I price on the US web site and then purchase on the CA web site is just what the exchange rate seems to be. On my last ticket I was charged CA $1.06 and when I looked to see what the cash cost to me would be, I use the best FX dealer in Vancouver UA was about one cent higher than what he sells it to me for. As far as prices go I am looking at some flights to BOG and UA is offering the same fare in both US and CA so that is certainly a bargain, when today's exchange rate is just over $1.06

It's a post-merger issue.
I live in the US. I have a Canadian employer. My billing address for my corporate card is Canada. But since I live and work in the US, my Canadian credit card is in US currency. United's system insists they bill me in Canadian dollars due to my billing address. So, I go through two exchange rates. The fare from US$ into CN$ by United and then the credit card company reverts it back into US$. This was not a problem in the past. UA's website could manage my home address and my billing address in different countries. This is not a problem on JetBlue or AA. Their systems let me book in whatever currency I want. I want US$, I book off the US website. Ditto LH, LX, and BA. |
I have your issue regularly
