They had a specific date (in the very near future) posted in the T1 lounge when I was there on Sunday. For the life of me I now can't remember what the date actually was.

New lounge at San Diego - August 13 - Terminal 2

Not sure if this has been posted already since I don't usually browse the United forums. If yes, mod's please delete. Thanks!

I was emailing San Diego airport security about lounge access since I depart from Terminal 2 in another airline instead of 1 for my upcoming trip Mid-August.

He told me the following:

Dear sudosandwich:

Thank you for your recent e-mail correspondence. On August 13, United Airlines (UA) will open a new lounge located in Terminal 2 West (2nd Floor Sunset Cove). VX passengers will not have to re-enter screening to access the UA lounge.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

Thank you for your interest in San Diego International Airport, operated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.

Sincerely,

Customer Service
San Diego International Airport

VX?!?!

EDIT: Oh ...looked at your profile. I thought VX pax was using UA lounges for a second.

No. They'll have a lounge in both terminals.

I didn't think they had any departures from T1.

According to SAN's website apparently they depart from T1 and T2.

Terminal 1 has been home to United for decades. They added terminal 2 when they merged with CO. United only flies out of terminal 2 to IAH and EWR

Will they run both lounges at once (term 1 & term 2)? Or does this mean that operations are going to be consolidated into the new terminal? Changes afoot in San Diego!!

Cool

Alaska Air is suppose to move to Term 1,
and United is consolidating with Continental Air in Terminal 2,
which will have new updated Food court and Waiting area.
LQQKS very nice, so far!

Another month or so for new Terminal addition to be dedicated. ^
More streamers & punch & sugar cookies!
I believe new UA/CO Gates & Lounge will be in Term 2
It will cut out the confusion of where UA & CO gates are, hopefully!

Smile post confusion

The correct post should read:

All mainline United flights will be in Term 2 starting on Aug 13
the new United lounge will be opening the same day in term 2

no more Ua flights will operate from term 1 and the term 1 United club will close at the same time

UX flights to Lax will continue from the Commuter terminal

That's great news. It will save lots of confusion. I like terminal 2 over terminal 1 because long term parking is within walking distance. Also, the new second level roadway entrance will make it easier.

Bags seem to arrive quicker to baggage claim also.

Regarding bags, I have a quick story. As most of you SAN based flyers know, baggage claim in SAN is one of the slowest in the system. It seems it takes a minimum of twenty minutes after deplaning. Sometimes longer. Two weeks ago, I was in the second row and therefore one of the first to get off the plane. I walked straight to baggage claim and found my luggage already going around the carousel! Wow! It was not a case of my bags flying on an earlier flight because there was no earlier flight. In forty years of travel at SAN, that was by far the fastest I ever received bags.

LOL, I'll bet IAD customers would believe they'd arrived at the wrong airport if their bags arrived less than 30 minutes after arrival. For us, 45 minutes is the norm.
