Sorry the joke fell flat on you. Many heavy UA flyers would be able to relate.

Having a look at their website they clearly are proud of their vending machine 'focus'. This is an interesting extract from their website:
With United and Continental, the cultural complications are
particularly sharp. Over the past decade and a half, Continental has
built a reputation as a carrier that made its employees happy and
catered to customers. At pre-merger United, relations between
workers and management were openly hostile, poisoned by the
battles of a recent bankruptcy. Among workers at the new airline
there is hope, but also palpable impatience about the pace of the
process.

The other UC with slightly better offerings is in MEX. Self service top shelf booze and Mexican bottled beer, little sandwiches, and the best, chips and guacamole. The guac tasted fresh made, wasn't some stuff they spread on at Subway.
While the actual room the club is in is not the place you want to spend hours in, the upgrade in food/drink offering was a happy thing.

If UA would even catch up with the dregs found in the US Airways Club of all places, they would have a pot of hot soup in the afternoon/evening, and perhaps some oatmeal in the morning.
I don't expect a miracle reinvention to a Maple Leaf Lounge, but for pete's sake, when your club is outdone by US, and AS is touting the cult following of something as simple as a pancake machine, there is a serious problem which is likely manifesting in the form of management saying "we don't give a ***", which is probably the same statement about inflight domestic F food and BusinessFirst/GlobalFirst food.
AA servers a larger, healthier and more interesting meal on a short hop flight than UA serves on a 5hr transcon - the UC food problem is just a symptom of a larger disease.

The LH SEN lounge at FRA B is pale compare to UA HKG RCC !
Well UA has an IFL at JFK just for FC paxs, that is JUST as bad as any of their other lounges. One would "hope" that at gateway cities that UA would have a true IFL, now, does it have to offer chauffer driven cars to the plane?, NO, buggy would be nice, but have a lounge that shows the airlines does care about the premium passenger.
The true UA IFL is in HKG.
