What to do with/how to use XXX miles?

I am posting this question for my neighbour. He had CO miles that were taken over by UA. He plans on using most of his miles for a free ticket and will have 5K miles left that will expire soon if he doesn't credit any miels to the account. Is there anything that can be done with 5K miles (a hotel booking, perhaps). If not, he plans on adding miles via a hotel stay. He tells me he doesn't plan on staying with UA and isnt'; happy with the merger. I am not too familiar with UA as I accumulate miles with AA, forgive me for the dumb questions. Neighbour and I will appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

- Inter-Island, one-way on HA (this is the only flight option)
- magazine/newspaper subscriptions
- Donate your miles
- Use miles to shop, bid and more

as miles in these quantity are worth less than $50 max and probably closer to $25.

Once he uses the miles for a free ticket, it will extend the life of his remaining miles for another 18 months. There are existing threads about extending the life of miles.

Any activity will extend the life of the miles (rent a car, hotel, ect).

However, I believe that using miles for hotels and rental cars is limited to Premier Members only.

If your friend is not a Premier, it limits the options to magazines and such.

Do you actually want to use them (for flights or other stuff)
http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/mark...#subscriptions
Or do you want to keep them from expiring http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...ad-merged.html

Cardholders too, but they don't need to worry about their miles expiring.

Thank you for the information. My neighbour has no desire to continue accumulating MP miles and wants to use the miles he has as best as possible.

Thanks, FTers for helping my neighbour and I.

Not sure what to do with miles

I strictly fly USairways now, and I just got an email from United saying that my 14k miles will be expiring soon. Is there a way that I can transfer them to US or is there something else I can do with them? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

You can usually do a small activity, or donate a small amount of miles to keep the miles alive.

Donate them to charity. Magazine subscriptions (for you or as gifts). Add some activity to the account and reset the clock if you want to hold them. Transfer on points.com.

What am I going to do with these miles?

I purchased a united airline ticket online, but I didn't notice that I logged in with my united Mileageplus account when purchasing, so my miles were credit to Mileageplus account after the flight finished. I am an aeroplan 35k member right now, since I live in Canada, it's more convenient for me to use aeroplan miles. I request United to return my miles to my aeroplan account ,they refused, its 8000miles, which would make me qualify for next's year 35k Elite membership. I feel very disappointed with united mileageplus, other company not this cruel to let me lose my 35k membership.
I don't know what to do with these 8000 united miles, since I am not living in US, I can't even use it redeem a gift card or anything.
Dose anyone would kindly give me some suggestion, which is the best way to use up these 8000 miles?
Thanks in advance.

You didn't notice you were logged into your MP account?

When were you going to add your Aeroplan number - as it seems you never even thought about it until afterwards.

If you earn 2000 more, that's a one-way award of less than 700 miles.

thank you for the reply

yes, I stored the account info in my computer cookie long time ago, so it will automatically log me in when i visit united.com which I didn't notice when i bought the ticket. I don't have any trip within 700 miles as I know. I live in Canada, such a big land...
