"I am not your Mom!" Wow!

On my recent flight UA587, I carried a poster tube and asked one of the FA if they have some space in the front so that I won't need to stuck my tube in the overhead. The FA directed my request to another FA. The FA took my tube, looked at me in the face and said" I am not your mom, OK? !"

Gosh, what?

"I'm old enough to take care of myself, madam". I replied.
"Mommy is not here! You know where to find me after landing". She commented.

Lol. As someone who was able to legally drink a few years ago, I felt like the comments from the FA is like a compliment. Being young is great!

She missed being his Mommy.

Honestly, the only answer in that situation would be "Of course you're not my Mom, my Mom is much younger than you".

I dunno. "Poster tube? But I just met her."

Feel as if there is something missing here.

In think most of us would be livid at such a comment.

I once asked an FA for a tea and she said "Please?". I was pretty pissed.

However, that is a temporary condition.

You were embarrassed because you forgot your manners.

She's your host, not your servant. Say please.

I am not defending bad manners, but an employee in a customer facing position should be able to tolerate rude (or rather, not positively polite) customers without potentially offending the customer.

Working in a customer service/ retail job as a college kid, words or phrases like "Please" "Thank you" goes a long way, both on my end and the customer's (I do make it easy when they say those "magic" word)
