splitting award ticket question

Hi, could use a definitive answer on a couple of questions.

Wife and I are booked on award tickets DEN-LHR (United metal) and LHR-DEN (Air Canada) on one itinerary.

My schedule has changed, and I have to leave for a business trip directly from London.

Pretty sure I can't redeposit half an award, but ideally, I'd like to change the date on my (but not her) return to some point in the future (where I can use it).

Q1: I think I have read that splitting itineraries on award tickets is not possible when part of trip is on partner airline (because it results in cancellation of the partner tickets (don't want to chance rebooking)). Is this still the case?
notes: calling United resulted in a long wait and ambiguous answer of "No problem sir, you can cancel the award and rebook separately" or something to that effect, with incomprehensible accent...am awaiting calling back).
Q2: I notice there is an option to separate the travelers when looking at "view reservation" but I am not confident of the result, i.e. will the AC flight just get cancelled?

Q3: I can simply eat the return award, but will my no-show result in (for example, the second leg of) her ticket being cancelled?

Any guidance is appreciated.

A few queries:

1. Are you a Premier?
2. How far away is the flight?
3. Do you have enough miles to book one award again?
4. Is there availability on the partner now?

This will help assess the best balance of costs versus availability vs options.

You do not want to eat half an award - that's 30K miles.

Thanks

1. Yes, silver
2. 7/4 ret 7/16
3. Enough miles at saver level.
4. looking at united.com availability, the AC flight does not appear, and the outbound is only at standard.

You are right that I don't want to eat the award!!

Any thoughts on what happens if I attempt to split?
