Looks like you beat me to this by just a few minutes. I've also posted a link to the updated united.com page in the existing thread about award ticket change/cancellation fees.
You are correct in that Premier members are not impacted by this change. I also wanted to add that these changes are only applicable for tickets issued on or after today, June 19.

That said, midnight MDT is kind of a weasel way to release this info. Makes the "5pm Friday before a long weekend" dump that politicians love seem downright forthcoming.

You don't make revenue policy, so you have my sympathies for the epic shellacking the boards are going to give you tomorrow.

Wow. So UA gets some props in the other thread for giving everyone ample notice about elite qualifying for 2014. Gets me thinking about spending my 9 year old son's miles since he can't spend any amount of money on a credit card next year.
But the clock turns midnight and we find out without any advance warning that there will be outrageous fees for any changes.
This is a really low blow, UA.

They should simply eliminate award redemption for general members. A $200 redeposit fee?

re kids
I have them, they have accounts.
One with AS, miles don't expire, no weird fees, one with UA now has exorbitant fees, and miles expire.
Another reason to book away from UA when the family is with me. Does UAL think that if one person gets a waiver they will not know about the crazy fees, get their kids/friends/family not to pick UA?
And every new person who comes on this board asks about UA, what are we going to say? "well UA is a little easier than DL, but they try to confiscate your miles with changes and tack on all kinds of fees."

I will say to a just starting mega flyer do not waste your time and money on UA. Fly WN domestic and AS partners international. AS domestic if the routes work.
I have over 800ku pre 3/3/12 from the real UA, so the way forward is more complicated.

Now this one, I don't get. It's not devaluing the experience for higher elites, and I would not guess that it's a significant source of revenue or cost. (maybe??)
Is this designed to really push people to want to be elite?
It must be the revenue then, maybe because changes always involve costly agents?

That program charges way less for redeposits and doesn't have UA's extortionate "rapid redemption" fees.
