Definition of 'confirmed'?
So I had a flight today, LAS-IAH-EWR.
LAS-IAH (UA451) is showing a 2 1/2 hour delay... Looks like I'll misconnect the IAH-EWR Leg, So I approach the UC agent at LAS and he protects me on a later flight. It shows up in my reservation, and indeed, I even get an email: Flight UA1236 13JUN from IAH gate E10 is scheduled to depart at 6:24 pm and arrive into EWR at 10:59 pm. If you do not make your connecting flight you are confirmed on flight UA1631 13JUN departing 9:08 pm from gate C39, IAH to EWR. The flight is now estimated to arrive EWR at 1:33 am. This flight is operated by United Airlines. To obtain new boarding documents, please use self service kiosks, United mobile app, visit united.com, or see a United representative. The UC agent here in IAH tells me there's no record of being protected on that flight, and the best she will do is put me on the standby list. So what the hell does "you are confirmed on flight UA1631" mean? Does the word 'confirmed' not mean what I think it means?! Frustrated. 1631 is showing full - now I have to hope someone else misconnects! I was proactive - I planned for this - and it still looks like I'll be spending the night in IAH. |
Whether it's an upgrade, a seat assignment, an OAL award ticket..."confirmed' is all relative w/UA these days.
Make sure you get a hotel voucher. Good luck. |
Why don't you either SDC onto a flight tomorrow (your profile says Premier Plat so you won't face any change fee) and just stay in Vegas, or alternatively there are a couple LAS - EWR direct red-eyes, they should be able to move you there and you can retroactively request ORC if that's the issue.

Red eye was full and unfortunately, now I'm in IAH. LAS flights won't help ;)

OP seems to already be in IAH.
By the way experflyer is showing this for that flight, the UC agent should be able to force you onto the flight since you misconnected you shouldn't have to standby on this one, there is an open economy seat still showing. F0 A0 Z0 P0 Y1 B1 M1 E1 U1 H1 Q1 V1 W1 S1 T1 L1 K1 G1 N1 |

Yep my mistake OP. Missed the part where you said you were already in IAH, my bad. Good luck with the SBY, hopefully if not they'll give you a hotel voucher and won't pull the weather card.

Been putting it off, but I need more tools! |

You can use UA website to look up availability by fare class ( be sure to turn expert mode on ). Or you can use flightstats. But people here stated that flightstats is not real-time availability.

EF is worth its weight in gold in these situations, especially since .bomb generally refuses to show complicated routings involving more than one stop or stops in spoke cities without heavy manipulation in multicity searches.

As for EF, I'd been putting it off myself for a while until I started booking an award ticket and then I got it. It easily paid for itself over Memorial Day in an IRROPS when it got me onto a same day flight on US Air vs. United who was trying to make me wait until a Saturday night flight. Best part being the mobile interface is pretty good and as you referenced below you can't use expert mode on .bomb using a mobile device so it can be clutch in situations where mobile is the only option |
