Future Hawaii Configuration for pmUA 777 Domestic Aircraft?

I notice that starting on 12/12/13 UA has zero'd out all first class fare buckets on the IAH-HNL-IAH PMUA777. They are only selling Y and J. The seat map still shows a 3-class 777, however.

I hope this doesn't turn into another 2-class PMUA 777 route!

I thought I saw it going to a 767-400. Either way 3 International 777 and 6 domestic 777's are going First and Coach. The rumor is that the old UA C seats will be going into these birds, with no first.

The remaining sUA 777s are being converted to an "Islands" config. It was supposed to have already started but the 787 delays slowed down those efforts. They will be a better C layout that the current 2-cabin version but not a true international config level.

You mean like the ones from the old 3 class 777 with the 12-F 49-C configuration?

Kacee May 26, 2013 10:57 pm

They're supposed to be installing the C seats (refurbished) they pull from the ps 752s. Anyone know what the capacity will be up front?

I heard 32 lie flats in C, however I have also heard the they are getting the old PS seats. I hope its the lieflats as IAH-DFW-OGG is looking better now that WP has pulled out of JHM.

I enjoyed the C seat on my last ps flight. So if the HNL bound planes aren't getting lie flat, then I hope they get the old ps ones.

There were some other issues as well with the configuration design which has held up the conversion. Not sure if that's been resolved.

Almost no chance of lie-flat IMO.

Flying out of SFO, the ps C seats would be a massive upgrade from the domestic first (38" pitch) configuration.

Depends on how much space they keep between them, right?? ;)

Yeah I'm assuming enough space for full footrest functionality.

Sad state for the long haul Island flights.

It amazes me how pmCO commanded a premium on the IAH/EWR to HNL/OGG routes only to jeff it all up. BFlite was the best the islands had and then they put older seats on the routes, remove the menu items and then have inferior IFE. I used to boast about pmCO to Hawaii, but now AA is king as they use the angled J seat (albeit not lieflat, but the only seat their 763 has not a subfleet of older J seats),offer a nice offering of meals including sundaes along with Samsung tablets and bose headsets.

I agree with the other poster about taking the AA route via DFW to OGG.

Future Hawaii Configuration

I was able to grab four first class saver awards for IAD-HNL-IAH for 2014. Right now it is showing a 767-400 with lie-flat seats, but a search turned up people discussing 777s getting new seats for a Hawaii only configuration. I am wondering:
(1) Will this effect the IAD-HNL flights?
(2) If so, what are the new seats/configs rumored to be, if anyone knows?

Thanks.

Not sure but looking at the UA Fleet Website, the remaining 772s that aren't in IPTE and the 772s that are domestics are "supposed" to be converted to 2 class Hawaii non-lie flat config using J seats from the PS planes. (this was stated from UA Insider awhile ago I believe)

Who knows though? They can easily change their mind as the reconfig hasn't started yet.
