United.com will not ticket the itinerary involving Turkish airlines flight

Should I do something or there is nothing to worry about?

I booked a multi-destination trip to IAH originating in Ukraine on United.com. Out of 6 flights, 2 flights are UA flights operated by LH, 1 flight is TK flight operated by TK, and the rest are UA flights operated by UA. Upon completion of the booking, I got the booking number but not the ticket numbers. The money on the credit card was not blocked either. The confirmation page said that United is waiting for TK to confirm the reservation. When I go to the reservation in Manage reservation, it does show the reservation numbers for both LH and TK, but displays the following message "Your purchase is confirmed. You will be promptly notified once the internal processing of your reservation has been finalized so that you can request additional receipts, export to Microsoft Outlook, refund or change your flight, view/change seats, check-in, or email or print your itinerary."

I made the booking yesterday, and today I called United representative in Moscow. He was surprised to see the reservation not ticketed yet, and said that United would usually ticket within 30 minutes after providing the booking number. I asked him if he could "force ticket" this reservation, which he said he could not do.

So I have a question to those of you who are experienced in booking with United - should I just wait for United to ticket this reservation in due course (it expires on May 29), or do something else to have it ticketed faster? The fare seems to be valid for ticketing only until May 28. I will appreciate any advice on how to resolve this.

Do you have to buy through united.com?

A third party will often ticket faster than united.com.

You need to call again or risk losing this reservation. Call UA's US number if you can......Or at least try to get the India call center. I dont think a Russian call center is where you ant to be

or better yet, take the above persons advice, go to a travel agent and have them issue it

This is a lie. Ok, "lie" is too strong a word. It is possibly correct for some cases, but misleading at best for certain others, and you have a-priori no way of knowing which your ticket falls into.

Should you just wait? In my experience, NO. Tickets that don't get issued within minutes that include partner segments require that you call back in 24 hours to confirm and pay. If you don't, the reservation automatically cancels. None of the email you get, or the web-site statements explain this procedure, instead, leading you to believe that just sitting and waiting is the right thing to do. This, IMO, is a significant system-level bug. Worse, the phone agents will say, "of course you have to call back, that's the way it works!" and will disavow any knowledge of the text displayed to pax that directly contradicts their statements.

You should call back. Give it one day from the initial booking for TK to respond to UA, and then call. If the agent isn't savvy enough to figure out what's going on, politely hang up and call again.

Carriers have 72 hours to confirm bookings by other carriers. Some carriers take longer, some take less. But, until the operating carrier of each segment confirms to UA, you do not have a confirmed booking. At that time, you will receive an e-ticket. This is distinct from other materials such as itineraries. E-tickets are distinct because they will have an e-ticket #. No ticket = no flight.

I would call UA (call the US #) and make certain that the e-tickets have been issued and then stay on the line while they send them to you. If the e-tickets haven't been issued, you are still at risk.

Update

As I was saying in my original post, both LH and TK provided the confirmation numbers for the flights they operate.

So I called the UK number for United, and here is what they told me. The rule (apparently with TK) is that United cannot issue the ticket before 24 hr despite TK provided its confirmation code. United cannot issue the ticket because TK has 24 hrs to come back and cancel its flight segment should they want to do so.

The agent told me to call back 24 hrs after the reservation is made and they will go ahead and ticket it on the phone.
