Mileage Plus Spring Merchandise Catalog

Got an email from United promoting the Mileage Plus awards catalog spring 2013. Promoted in the email is the ability to order a iPad mini for only 44,300 miles. Seeing as this was a better than average deal I clicked through to order. Turns out on click through, it actually costs 64,200 miles.

Silly me.

Upon further review, every single item featured in the email is not available for the number of miles listed.

Nice work UA.

I value 1 mile at 2 cents, so even at 44,300 miles x 0.02 = $886
If you value 1 mile at 1 cent, 44,300 x 0.01 = $443

Seems like a bad deal for a $329 item, unless you have more miles than you know what to do with.

You're better off buying an iPad mini at jr.com or bhphoto for free shipping and no tax (depending on your state), and earn credit card points.

If you have a Chase card, order it through the Ultimate Rewards mall to get even more points.

On further review, if you log in after clicking through, it shows the advertised price.

So, it appears the offers are dynamic and perhaps the pricing is tied to MP status.

Fix your original post. And ask the mods to lock the thread.

I just got the 2015 version.

What a fricken rip off.

85,000 miles for a suitcase I can buy in Bangkok for $50?

Do people really buy this stuff?
