737-800 Bulkhead

Haven't flown United for close to a year (use American more for work now) and will be flying United in about a month. Question: On the LAX to EWR 737-800 flights, is there a cutout for row 1 or does row 2 offer more legroom. Not that I'm a giant, but I do like to stretch my legs and don't want them shoved up my thorax. Didn't see a "Where to sit on a 737-800" thread or I wouldn't have posted this... Thanks in advance.

A short thread exists in the pre-merger forum. Looks like row 2 is preferred over row 1.

Edit: I think I've sat in the bulkhead of a 7737-800 before and had no problems, but I'm only 5'9". I don't recall stretching easily, but I wasn't cramped either.

I'm 6 foot 3, and felt somewhat cramped in Row 1, but it wasn't as bad as some other bulkheads I've sat in (like US Air Economy). The Economy bulkhead actually has more legroom due to the cutout. Row 2, however, I can stretch out my legs a bit more.

I'm 6'2" and prefer the bulkhead on the 738. It has a nice cut-out and lots of room. Plus you don't have to worry about someone reclining into you.

My last flight on a 738 in E+ was SFO-ORD and I had a bulkhead window seat. There was plenty of room for me to get up and get to the isle without bothering the other two in the row or asking them to move.

I'm 5' 11'' and prefer the bulkhead on that plane.

Only Economy Plus has the cut-out for the bulkhead seat. There isn't the same cut-out in the bulkhead seat for First (Row 1).

Yes, you are completely right! My reading comprehension skills aren't so good today!

In that case then yes I too would agree that row 2 is better than row 1 on the 738/9.

1B has a 3-4" deep cutout. The other seats (1A, 1EF) do not have a cutout although the wall is not as close as on sUA A319/320 or domestic 757s. I find I can cross my legs in 1A/EF but can't stretch them out. I'm 6'2".

Row 2 is my preference, but will take 1B if it's available.

I'm 6'6" and totally agree with this assessment.

Concur with Additional Seat Qs

+1. I have flown in the bulkhead seat on this plane quite a few times recently and this is where you want to be.

Side Q RE 737-900. I typically fly the bulkhead on these planes when traveling with family but I have a solo trip coming up where I find myself on a couple of these and curious as to whether others think the emergency row is a better place to sit.

Bonus Q: I have four flights coming up where I am on a 319. Is 21A the best (non-F) seat?

PS So happy to be avoiding the 757s--it's the only plane where I can tell the air quality is not as good as the others...

Another 738 Bulkhead thread on teh PMCO side of the forum:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/conti...d-seating.html

when in F, i pick Row 2 or 3. Row 1 AB are crapshoots for the cutout. in Y, 7ACDF are great.

Thanks, for the info everyone...

Thanks for everyone's input regarding the Row 1 bulkhead. I guess I should have been more specific about location. I was referring to the FC cabin. I think I'll stay with row 2 since I'll be able to stretch out my legs during the red eye to EWR. Thanks again.

Just to clarify any possible confusion: Row 1 is F. There is no cutout in Row 1, except the space in front of 1B might qualify as one. Even still, I don't think you can stow anything there.

The first row of E+ is Row 7. There is a cutout in which you can also stow your carry-on, and there is plenty of room especially because no one in front is reclining into you.

FWIW, were I planning to watch Directv, I will avoid Rows 1 and 7 because the personal monitor is fixed on the bulkhead.
