Holiday Inn is blocking united.com for Adult content

I am in Istanbul Holiday Inn near the airport and can not access united.com or ual.com, because Internet provider is blocking it for adult content. Other non adult websites work just fine.

This is the message I am getting from Holiday Inn:

-------------------------------------------------------------
United.com

This domain is blocked.

Site blocked. This site is not allowed on this network.

This site was categorized in: Pornography, Nudity, Adult, Hate, Weapons, Sexuality Themes
--------------------------------------------------------------

I asked reception what exactly offensive is shown on United Airlines website and of course they had no clue and no idea how to fix it.

The message refers to 'hate' as a possible reason for blocking the site. United hates its elite members of MP......so there you have it. FWIW, I'm in the TK lounge at IST right now and can access the UA website so it's not a govt ban.

If you're not doing anything too sensitive, you could always just tunnel through using Tor.

Only took three posts for this to devolve into another thread attacking the UA website layout

What do you expect? Obviously the filtering software has a bad domain or IP address that blocks UA's website but you might as well have a little fun with it.

It's because UA shows adult movies on board!

On a related matter, Orange, the UK mobile network as was, used to block FT as an adult site. They clearly had not read any of the UA vs CO discussions on the board.

I've been to Istanbul several times, and stayed at the Holiday Inn Topkapi. OP, make sure that the keyboard is set for western language. Some of the keys are in the greek alphabet.

The last person to use the site at your hotel probably discovered the easter egg where you can get Alex to talk dirty to you.

I agree with others. More likely blocked for "hate" than the other topics.

How to fix it? Get rid of $mi$ek.

Too perfect! A walk through UA's Dulles facilities would certainly show how screwed it is.

With regard to most of the replies, although it's well after April 1, time to close this one up. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator.
