GPU on LH FRA-PNQ (Privatair dba LH)?

I'm flying FRA-PNQ (Pune, India) on an M fare. It's sold as a LH flight (I'm booked as a UA codeshare) but operated by Privatair. Is it upgradable with a GPU issued as a LH paper certificate?

No problem at all.

I'm heading Rome, Frankfurt, to Chicago in about two weeks. Anyone have any luck on getting GPU upgrade on the Frankfurt to Chicago route?

My concern is that I have a 2 1/2 layover in Frankfurt so I won't be able to hand over the GPU within the 3 1/2 hour time limit. Should I Try to get the GPU in ROme, or try to get it in Frankfurt and hope for good luck? The flight is on a 747 so my gut tells me there will be plenty of open seats.

thanks everyone

There is no such 3.5h 'time limit', if you are upgrading from Y to C, 45-50 min is OK, C to F requires about 90-120 min.

Any idea what the chances of using a paper cert on LH 456 on 11/30 is?

Lufthansa refuses upgrade because United incorrectly prints invalid flight segment!

Traveling SFO-MUC-VIE and then VIE-MUC-ORD-DSM. Today flying MuC to ORD Im told there is room for an upgrade - no problem. Then she discovers the coupon has MUC-VIE for the routing. She refuses to honor it even when I explain that MUC-VIE is an invalid routing for this kind of coupon and it's an obvious mistake. Supervisor no good. Lots of German being used that I don't understand. Crowding by agents at the desk wondering what's going on. States of death. Called 1K and MP- no help, they won't fax or change the locator to explain that united would honor the upgrade.

Epic fail. So disappointed in this alliance.

(Bolding mine)

They threatened you or typo? :)

tennisboy Nov 13, 2013 6:45 am

Typo. STARES of death.
But guess what-- the MP folks sent me an email 30 min before boarding indicating they authorized the Upgrade in the Lufthansa PNR!! Wow. Removing foot from mouth and ripping up my AA card and emailing thanks to supervisors in LH and UA who helped me!

I think I'm confused here because the word "coupon" has special meaning dating back to the time when air travel was guaranteed to involve paper tickets.

When you say the "coupon" has MUC-VIE on it, do you mean (1) you're using a paper GPU on which United has pre-printed the flight segment MUC-VIE; or (2) your e-ticket is out of sync with the trip you're intending to take and UA never actually issued a flight coupon to cover your travel MUC-ORD, and UA is trying to encourage you to fly MUC-ORD on a ticket that's valid for MUC-VIE?

Number 1. But thanks mainly to MP problem is solved! We should edit the title of this post!

+1 for Mileage Plus able to resolve the issue.

However, did you use the printed GPU out of sequence, or was it a true mistake? You can certainly use the GPU on MUC-VIE if it's operated by LH - not a great use for it, but certainly valid routing.

tennisboy Nov 15, 2013 9:05 pm

It was a true mistake. Isn't MUC-VIE invalid since it is not considered an international, overwater routing?

UA GPU's can be used on any LH flight. But remember they are good for one segment only. LH should have realized that you would never apply a GPU to such a ridiculously short segment when you have MUC-ORD coming up. But they are a "by the book" airline.

I'm honestly shocked UA fixed this *and* emailed you. That took time and dedication...something completely lacking with UA MP agents (even at the 1K desk) lately.

Sorry if it's elsewhere but does anyone have a mapping of UA --> LH booking classes for eligibility?

I have to book United code...

Essentially V and above for eco. Excludes Z for business.

I have only ever used them for RTW tickets in both business and eco. And it is a great thing since you can upgrade all longhaul around the world by flying UA and LH. RTW books in M for eco and D for business on LH. My last three RTWs ex-Japan have been in eco, which saves a lot of money.
