Segment Limit on Checked Bags

I searched but didn't see a similar thread, so if there is one, please merge.

Yesterday I was scheduled to fly JAX-TPA-EWR-PIT-CLE-MCI and upon checking in at JAX the bag tag only showed my luggage checked as far as CLE. After I asked the agent, she told me that there is a limit of four segments on one luggage tag, and that I'd have to pick up my luggage somewhere along the line. I asked if she could do a manual tag since US had done that for me one time with a six segment itinerary, but she said the manual tags only have room for two segments. Is this a new policy with SHARES or just an agent that didn't know how to do it?

I ask because I'm flying MCI-EWR-YQC-YYZ-LIM-CUZ on an award ticket in May and don't feel like picking up luggage en route.

Post 3/3, it has been done SGN-BKK-MNL-GUM-HNL-LAX ON two auto-generated luggage tags, YMMV. UA needs to spend more money on GA training! Or was it UAX GA?

The bag tags for your itinerary wouldn't have been issued by UA though. Each airline is different so yes YMMV.

So did you mean the other *A airline can interline with UA but not vice versa? Or did you mean UA just can't do it even without interline? Or was it an incompetent UA/UAX GA? Just curious.

I think ual744777sta means that other airlines may have software that is capable of printing more than four destinations on a single tag.

Yes that is what I mean. The segment limit depends on the first operating carrier. The issue the OP is facing is not interline but the amount of segments a bag tag can take. Interline is not an issue here.

To the OP: I'm not sure what the max is now for a bag tag. Sorry.

It was actually on two tags. It would have been a very long single five-segment tag :-).
